Paul Alan Davison trained in interior design, earning a degree from the Art Institute in Houston and then worked in the field in Houston and Austin specializing in high-end antiques and exquisite, hand-knotted rugs. In 1994, he combined his passion for interior design and entrepreneurial spirit to launch David Alan Rugs in Austin.

At his West 6thStreet location, he features contemporary, transitional and traditional hand-knotted, rugs.

From shearing the raw wool to unrolling it on the the floor of your home, hand-made rugs touch many hands and hearts. Each touch affects the price. Different breeds of sheep from different areas around the world produce wool of different characteristics. For example, the wool grown in southern Argentina makes excellent rugs.

We just purchased two rugs from Paul and his staff. Before going to David Alan Rug, I was dreading the process of choosing rugs - it seemed overwhelming. I shouldn't have worried. Paul, who has great design taste, made some suggestions that were spot on. Despite a huge selection of unique and amazing rugs, Paul quickly steered us to rugs that looked gorgeous in our home. They made several trips to the house without complaint when I changed my mind on one of the rugs, and they simply could not have been more patient and accommodating.

I walked into David Alan yesterday and this place has the most beautiful rugs I've ever seen. Paul (the owner) was super nice and accommodating. He took the time to explain things and flip over every rug so I could see it. This is a snazzy place and I came in after a workout looking like a mess. Believe me I didn't look like someone ready to buy an expensive piece of art. He didn't treat me any differently than he would a woman walking in dripping in diamonds. If you are looking for a high quality rug you must check this place out!

Prefect place to find high end and great quality rugs that last. This place was recommended to me by friends who have used their cleaning services. They have a great selection of rugs to choose from that could fit any home and love the fact they can be custom made in terms of sizes and colors. Staff was friendly, greeted me , and very knowledgable. Highly recommended this place for any one going through a home decorating phase or designers seeking floor art for their customers homes.

I want to thank Paul and his staff for being helpful and honest in helping us find the perfect rug for our dinning room. They have by far the best looking rugs in town. I can appreciate quality, and I saw it through out the store. We went in looking for a more transitional look and were so intrigued by all the beautiful rugs they had that were more modern and traditional. Paul gave us a 101 on handmade rugs and it made it easy to pick a rug we know would last, as he assured us he would stand behind his product. I've seen other rug stores in town and these guys know what they're doing

David Alan rugs is by far the finest rug store in town. I read some of the other reviews and it seems like the clients who complained don't understand that fine rugs last a lifetime, and are truly works of art.
I have been a customer of David Alan Rugs, and Paul Davison for 20 years. He has always been amazingly patient and helpful when it came to picking out rugs. I now have a home in Santa Fe, and Paul actually filled his van and brought rugs to me in Santa Fe since there I trust him implicitly and he has never steered me wrong.
