Mike Thompson (co-owner) designed my Ground mount Solar system. He did a great job. Actually he was introduced to me by a retired Saratoga city engineer. Because of the complicated Saratoga city arborist requirements, he had to change the design twice. When plan was finally submitted to the city, they approved it without any issue. Beware of their business practices at Golden Bear Solar. During conversations with them about their product, they gave us a referral for someone to install a heating/AC unit. We chose their referral, in large part due to the recommendation of the Solar Bear guys. Long story short, the referral a) installed the outside unit far too close to the house which would have shortened the lifespan of the unit from 20 years to 6, b) installed the wrong unit in the attic (only heat, no AC), and c) created a control panel and wiring system running through the attic and walls that was a severe safety risk and

The company I had used to install my installation in 2012 went out of business and Golden Bear Solar was one recommended by Enlighten. We had our power go out for 53 hours in August and the breakers tripped. After waiting for 2 weeks for another solar company to respond, I sent Golden Bear Solar an email on a Sunday explaining the symptoms. Mike got back to me the same day and told me what I could do to determine if it was the breakers or a wiring issue. Problem solved in minutes. I will be going back to them in the future for upgrades and maintenance.

Golden Bear Solar installed an expansion to my existing solar system. The have been professional, cost effective and fast, particularly compared to the installers of the original system. I mostly worked with Mike, who i think is a co-founder, he was very knowledgeable and patient with my changing requirements. Aside from being attentive to my preference of exact system layout, he was able to spot that my previous installers gave me a different model of solar panels vs contract. Excellent Solar Install Experience!
We used Golden Bar Solar for our solar install and we can now produce up to 101% of our total energy needs and it did not cost us one dollar out of pocket! Golden Bear Solar did everything they said they would do (unheard of these days!) including getting the system installed by year end so we could qualify for the 30% Federal Tax Credit.
We will save over $1,000 this year alone and we now are hedged against what will likely be huge increases in PG&E rates due to the fires. As it is, PG&E rates have increased almost 10% a year for the past 10 years
