I have nothing but positive things to say about Kona Contractors. They provided us a quote as we were closing on our home, bent over backwards to meet our timeline needs while still managing all the variables of COVID, backorders, etc - and they did so with honest and upfront communication. Their quote was not the lowest of the three, but the quality of work for my outdoor bench, gas firepit, and pergola speaks for itself. We did have some wood split because wood is wood and it happens. I asked them for a quote for a small project, the numbers they sent back were so high, that when I showed it to some friends they all reacted the same way....are they serious or are they just messing with you?
If you were to extrapolate what they quoted me for my small project to a full size new deck/patio, it would have to be well over $150K.

I found Kona on google and gave them a call for a consultation for a paver patio that we wanted installed. From the front office to the field workers, they all were very kind and took a messages from me when needed and got it to the correct department when necessary. Kona just finished building a patio cover on rear of our house so this review is immediately after. Regarding the initial bid process, Kona was by far the easiest to deal with. The other contractors seemed more determined to tell us what they wanted to build, but Kona was more concerned with what we wanted built and how they could meet that goal. I had my decks rebuilt by Kona Contractors. As they demolished the old decks, the dry rot and bad construction (i.e. not to code) by the original builders came to light. Kona repaired everything to code and then rebuilt the decks which are now safe and look very good.

We decided to add a patio cover to our home last fall and I'm glad we got an early start. We struggled with how to complete the project due to the difficult roof line on the back of our home. The previous contractors we met with could not provide a sufficient explanation of how they proposed to complete the project. We absolutely LOVE our new patio and built in grill! We had a rough idea of what we wanted, but Brittany really brought it to life. With some very vague ideas she came up with a plan we love. Kona built a complete covered patio including composite flooring, roof, railings, electrical and gas hookups. The original flagstone patio was removed and rebuilt on a lower level.

Kona sent a team to demolish our deck and build a new one adding a gabled roof cover and pergola. The team worked diligently everyday, with no work stoppages to go to other jobs which frequently happens in this industry. The only delays we experienced were due to material shortages. Negative review is the result of a very poor process up front - in terms of measuring correctly, providing accurate bids and communication - that resulted in them increasing the price 21% after I had paid the initial deposit and had been the one that had urged verifying the measurements. I cannot over-emphasize the difference that hiring a quality contractor like Kona makes vs going the cheap route like I did. I originally hired AJ Gale Builders in Highlands Ranch who failed to meet Douglas County code on half the deck. When I confronted them, AJ Gale walked off the job screaming, leaving me with an ‘UNSAFE’ deck. Met them at the home show Feb 2018. Set up a date for them to come out to review the property and give us a quote. They were very specific about making the appointment and our availability being important. Well the date was a month out. I made arrangements to be home that day from my job. We just had our paver patio done by them (patio, fire pit and seating wall), and we couldn't be happier with the result. They are excellent communicators, and made sure that we were happy every step along the way. A couple of times we needed to revise some things that weren't quite the way we wanted them, and they made the adjustments quickly. Brittany, RW, Ryan and Adam are all fantastic and so easy to work with. I couldn't recommend them more, and wouldn't hesitate to hire them for another project at our house.

Kona contractors built me a beautiful outdoor kitchen earlier this spring and our family has been enjoying it all summer long and now into the fall. 1) Kona remodeled our bathroom July-Aug. 2009
2) less than 3 months later, by Nov., stress cracks appeared on the travertine floor, length of cracks have grown since then
3) we asked for remedy, Kona would only offer re-surfacing and re-sealing, but not replace cracked floor tiles
4) we believe stress cracks are result of improper install work, Kona disagrees; so we let small claims court decide
5) in Feb, 2010, judge agreed with us and awarded us an amount to fix the floor
6) as of this writing (March, 2010), Kona has not paid the judgment and refused our attempts
