I would have given the place three stars but they do have a great product.
Product asside, the customer service after installation, is terrible!
A few days after the warranty was over the main service box ceased to work.
I called to ask for in house assistance however they gave me a name of a person that would call me for help. I waited four days and no call. I called them back and finally received a call. I explained that I had done everything possible to get my fireplace to work like change batteries ect. They told me to breing in the service box as there was most likely residue from old batteries

We purchased a gas log and installed a gas line to the fireplace, then our project went awry when the early November chimney inspection revealed that our flue was unsafe. Our neighbor recommended OKell's for chimney flue repair and we're sure glad we contacted them.
Despite not starting our project with OKell's, they came to our rescue. Trevor and Derek were great to deal with. They explained their Thermocrete repair process, had Jeff come out the following week for an estimate and scheduled the job for just 4 weeks later. They even moved the job up one day to avoid postponing

We hired Okell's to replace our wood burning fireplace with a gas one. We worked closely with Alan & Jeff who provided us with a detailed quote and answered all of our questions. They came out multiple times prior to the actual install to inspect the framing & electrical whip which allowed us to make adjustments prior to the actual install date to ensure there were no issues.

I haven't purchased from these guys, but the support experience I had today with Trevor was one of the best I've ever had from any company. Not knowing who installed the fireplace in our recently remodeled new house in SF, I called Okell's to try to identify the warranty so I could get a malfunction fixed. Turns out they didn't install it, but Trevor spent 45 minutes on the phone with me figuring out the problem, despite no prospect of making money. I was really impressed with their knowledge and help. I reached out to them when I was having problems with a unit I had not even purchased from them. I was hoping to maybe get them to come out and look at my fireplace since I wasn't crazy about the place I had originally bought it from. Kevin at Okell's was so helpful in trying to figure out the problem. Within a few emails he understood the issue and had a good workaround. The original place I bought it from was no help. OKell's showroom is impressive. Their products appear to be of good quality, but it's all smoke and mirrors here. I had a gas fireplace installed in August, 2017. It worked for almost 3 years, then it stopped working. I called OKells in August, 2020, spoke with a guy named Kevin, who said "An appointment will be about $300 and that if parts are required, that could be another few hundred dollars" Money is tight these days with Covid, so I couldn't make the appt for estimate at the time. We had a great experience with OKell's Fireplace. After many years of debating the pros and cons of a gas fireplace insert we went to Okell's on a friends recommendation and were very impressed. Derek greeted us for our appointment and must have spent hours going over the pros and cons of inserts, the different brands and designs. Our first experience with O'Kells Fireplace was about 10 years ago when we purchased our first ever gas fireplace. My wife and I were very impressed from the moment we entered the showroom. There were dozens of models on display, which made it very easy for us to see exactly what would be getting. The salespeople were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They took excellent care of us and were very patient as they introduced us to the world of fireplaces! We ended up getting the perfect model for our home that was delivered exactly as promised!

OSham! We put a deposit down early on a project for a couple of fireplaces that were never ordered or installed. After I got a competing quote that was 40% less. Okell's wouldn't match the competing offer and is refusing to return the deposit despite no work being performed. Stay away from this place at all costs.

The owner, Kevin, came for the in-person firebox/chimney check and to give the proper estimate. He remembered me from a decade ago when they rebuilt the firebox in our last house and we accidentally kept failing to open the flu! We had the open/shut reversed. This time, we were interested in gas logs to get ready for fire season with potential PG&E power shut downs. We did not to want to freeze again! Prior to Kevin's visit, salesman Charlie helped me. Okell's helped me pick out a new fireplace and put me in touch with the right stoneworkers (Venetian Marble) and local custom mantel maker. And walked me step by step through the whole process (have Okells check out my fireplace to see what was possible, select an insert, open up the cabinet, put in a gas insert, pick out stone, pick out the mantel, then have stone put in, then insert, then mantel.) Can't say enough about the wonderful service and quality fireplace insert with professional installation I received from OKell's Fireplace. I love my insert and so do my cats! Charlie was amazing, helping me choose just the right insert over the phone and sending me pictures online, so I never even had to leave my house and visit their show room in the City.

We have been Okells customers for years. A few years ago, we bought a gas fireplace insert from them which they installed. When we had problems with it recently, they refused to provide service and said they no longer serviced customers in the Berkeley hills. They didn't even provide information about another provider that could help. We are very disappointed in Okells. We thought they were the gold standard in sales and service! No more.

The customer service here is unsatisfactory. They do not reply to emails in a timely manner and do not regularly answer the phone- which makes the overall experience pretty difficult. I have had an easier time remodeling the rest of my house than I have had with this fireplace project. I have 3 more fireplaces that need remodeling and I will avoid working with them again.

I hired OKell's for an inspection and cleaning. When the representative came over, he told me that the fireplace was not safe for use, but it could be if I allowed his company to do work on it. The work would cost close to $10,000 and would require ripping out drywall and destroying a wall that I would have to hire a contractor to fix when the job was done.
Needless to say, I decided to get 2 more second opinions, both companies explained to me that it was unnecessary for me to do the work OKell's suggested. The first person to inspect my chimney told me I needed a chimney sweep. I explained

This is the WORST company i have ever dealt with... They rescheduled on us twice, and then they were to send us a report and they didn't do that and when I called to find out about it they were RUDE. Not to mention they were rude when we tried to schedule an appointment. they are one of the only games in town and hence that's why they are still in business.. horrible, horrible service

We needed to upgrade our old brick fireplace to an attractive gas burning fireplace. We were referred to Okell's and are so happy we were. In addition to helping us with the gas log, they took care of the new mantel and wood surround. Kevin came to our home and immediately knew what style and size of surround and mantel to recommend. Robert built the wood surround and mantel and installed it. He is a true craftsman. Gabriel removed some of the old brick, cleaned the chimney and made needed repairs, and finally installed the gas log. Every step was handled professionally, from the sales people
