Steve The Arborist
Steve Wortinger has been deeply involved with nature since he could walk. Born in rural northern Indiana, the son of a soy bean farmer, his hands are no stranger to dirt. In the early 1970's Steve attended landscape design and construction school in the San Francisco Bay area. After graduation he spent over 30 years in horticulture in one form or another.

Lots of planting, maintaining and general care, Steve soon became a true professional in the green industry. A turf grass specialist, composting consultant and fertilizer manufacturing soon led to Master Gardener and then to Certified Arborist. Steve has also held a WA State pesticide license. Add all this experience up and you have an outstanding Certified Arborist who truly cares about the trees and plants he see's getting abused and neglected.
Services
Steve specializes in providing a full range of tree consulting, general tree services and Certified Arborist services for Key Peninsula, Gig Harbor and the surrounding Olympic Peninsula. Trees and plants age and develop problems based on the environment they're in. Best practice is prevention by feeding and maintaining your trees and plants before a problem arises.
Integrated Plant Health Care is a concept of preventive care and maintenance to maintain a tree's sound structure and good health. Good care will help the tree better defend itself against insects, disease and problems associated with site conditions, particularly important in urban settings which are stressful to trees.

Snow Damaged Trees; What can we do or should we do anything to help straighten them up, Will there be more snow like that?. I am finally able to talk about that snow storm, it gave me PTSD! Over 2 feet on my greenhouse brought it to the ground and did over $10,00.00 in damages to it. And then there are the Japanese Maples I've worked on for years that are now in Maple Tree Heaven with the Angels.

We had three trees removed from a small yard in Old Town Alexandria. Highly technical job that included a very large Mulberry that overhung neighbors' property on both sides and was crisscrossed by no less than three service lines, as well as cable lines. Also included large elm that was less than 10 feet from house. I honestly did not understand how it would be possible to safely get rid of these trees. The crew did not bat an eye when they saw the situation. They skillfully and methodically took down the trees, often having to proceed painstakingly slow to work around obstacles and avoid damaging

Crew was polite and professional. They gave me the best estimate for taking down a dead tree. Arrived on time. Cleaned up as they worked. Very happy with their work. Will definitely call them again when needed.

Many thanks to Big Steve's crew for removing and cutting up multiple tree branches that had recently been damaged in a storm. We had a 100' tall Chestnut Oak go down in our back yard during a recent storm. It was only due to a favorable wind that kept it from hitting our home. Steve's crew did an excellent job in removing the tree and grinding the stump. Quality work that we have come to expect from Steve and his crew!

Steve’s thinks it is fine to park in the way of other peoples’ driveways. Called office, they were rude and said “it will only be for a minute or two. I asked how they knew that, no response.
To update everyone, they threw my trash can in the in the street to block my driveway as they left. Well done Steve’s, well done indeed.

We've used Big Steve's Tree Care now on several occasions and have always been impressed; prompt, professional and friendly service that can't be beat! Our most recent job was trimming a few trees encroaching from neighbors yard and clearing branches from power lines. Steve's crew responded promptly and took care of the job for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended!

I've used Big Steve's Tree Care several times. What a great company. Today, Julio and crew took care of damage caused by the recent wind storms (May 2021) and a stump removal. The guys that arrived were polite, professional, and communicated what was going on. AND they cleaned up (didn't leave wood chips all over the driveway!). I appreciate great service and that's what Big Steve's delivered.

We had Big Steve come out and take down a couple of 70’ pines and clean up an elm tree. His team was punctual, polite and super efficient. Big Steve’s are real tree guys... not guys that just cut trees. Was amazing to watch them work and most importantly when they were finished, with the exception of the trees being gone, didn’t leave a trace! Very impressed! Great work at a reasonable price! I would definitely use them again.

We’ve used Big Steve’s twice since buying our dream property last year. We have many huge trees and initially needed one dead tree removed & cleaning up several more. The 4 man crew had a bucket truck but used climbing for most of the trees. The workers were very skilled, pleasant, and respectful of our property. They’re also amazing to watch - they’re at home up in the trees. The price was very fair & Steve is a pleasure to deal with. He is a local, hands on business owner & very knowledgeable. When another tree that posed a risk didn’t look good this spring, we knew who to call. As

Highly recommend Big Steve's. I had them take down a large tree and grind down the stump. Workers were kind and efficient. They cut all the wood down to 16-20 inches pieces for me to split later. The price was the best part! I got their winter discount which was nice but their full price still came in under what the other companies were offering with a discount. Office was quick to respond and got my job booked quickly.
