We love Wichita and we love old houses. We are constantly inspired by the older homes around the city. College Hill is our home but so is Riverside, Midtown, Eastborough, and all other corners of Wichita!

Over the years it has become clear to us that a hard-wax oil finish provides some significant benefits as compared to a traditional polyurethane finish when it comes to real wood floors. Let's explore these two finishes further! Polyurethane ("Poly") is the product of a chemical reaction using derivatives from a barrel of oil.
Close-up of stair treads and how perfect we can match a pre-finished stain to a custom stair tread. Before: This homeowner purchased this old home in Riverside. She wanted the modern grey floors returned to a more natural looking finish. They went with a hard-wax oil color called Pure which has a beautiful golden amber undertone.
Our partnership with Dohrman Custom Cabinetry began in the Fort Hays State University dorm rooms. The year was 2006. Future owners of College Hill Wood Company & Dohrman Custom Cabinetry were already sharing a passion for woodworking. Fast forward, we are both now dedicated entreprenuers. We work together to plan, build, and install the kitchen of your dreams.
We were already installing all new pre-finished white oak floors so the homeowner asked how we could update the staircase to match. Finished staircase complete with new treads, risers, & balusters. We custom matched the stain to match the pre-finished espresso floors that we installed throughout the house.

Having an older home, Joey worked closely with me to match and tie into existing wood floors in other parts of my home.
