My chimney hadn't been inspected or cleaned for decades, so I was expecting the worst when John came. He explained possible scenarios and cost for each. However, upon inspection the only problem found was a bunch of cobwebs obstructing draft. John did not try to "upsell" me into an unnecessary cleaning beyond removing the cobwebs. I was very impressed with his honesty and professionalism. You can't go wrong with his service.

John inspected our chimney when we were looking to buy a house. He was punctual, pleasant, knowledgeable, and gave us an honest and in depth assessment. The previous owner had an odd setup for an insert and John was able to provide us with suggestions of how to move forward with it but not have us spend a lot of money changing it. I've referred him to a few others since then and they have all had nothing but good things to say. He will definitely be our chimney guy going forward.

I had a very good experience with John, he was very professional, polite, punctual and very knowledgeable about all the questions I had. He was a bit reluctant to help at first because we're just outside his service area, but he came so highly recommended by my cousin that I called him back and tried again. My parents and I are very happy he agreed to work for us and we feel very well prepped to use our freshly-cleaned fireplace the next time it snows!

I highly recommend John Maurer, owner of Top Hat Chimney Sweep Services, for wood stove and chimney sweep services. He is knowledgeable, methodical, and friendly. He cleaned our 1980s Hearth Stone wood stove, stack and chimney cap quickly and efficiently. I consider his price for this service a fair bargain.

Gene Michael of Top Hat Chimney Services is as honest and thorough as they come. I had a serious problem with poor maintenance work from my heating contractor last year. After inspecting my furnace Gene was able to fix the problem and also determine the cause, which helped me prove to the heating company that they did not perform the services I was billed for. The contractor recognized the problem Gene discovered and rectified the situation immediately. Gene has been a lifelong friend, and I recently had the opportunity to see him in action as a chimney sweep when shooting video for his website
