Founded by Ben Quie in 1988, Ben Quie & Sons is a St. Paul remodeling company specializing in bringing together the charm of vintage homes with the function of modern conveniences.
Even though he's a carpenter, brick homes have a special place in Jacob's heart - it's all about the symmetry. After going to culinary school and working as an EMT, Jacob traveled around the country building climbing walls - which is how he landed at Ben Quie & Sons. Some of his favorite clients are the pets he meets on the job, especially cats.
There are details about old homes - the trim, the overhangs, the finishing - that you can only learn from experience. That's what makes us unique. The footprint is the same, but the galley-style kitchen layout creates more room for storage and seating. Even as a kid, Ben was always taking things apart and putting them back together to see how they worked. He likes looking at things from all angles, not ruling things out, trying to see things from somebody else's perspective. As he got older, he tried out several careers, but after taking a summer job with a remodeling company in the 80's he was hooked.

We found Ben Q's crew and staff to be very competent and detailed oriented. Paul, the go to guy on our project, went over and above expectations in several areas. We were always well informed as to progress thru their web program as well as personal updates. If there was a delay, it was explained to our satisfaction. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a personal detailed contractor.

Their crew and subcontractors were excellent in so many ways, including: Assisting with design choices; Keeping us informed about progress and any issues that arose; Being respectful of our condominium neighbors and working with the condominium board and HOA requirements (even more difficult during the pandemic!); and Performing beautiful work. They are completely reliable, do outstanding work, are helpful and easy to deal with, and were very communicative through out our project. We were (and continue to be) extremely satisfied with the results, and will be using them again when we redo one of the bathrooms in our house.

Ben and his crew went above and beyond our expectations. They remodeled our kitchen down to the studs and it was as seamless as they could possibly make it. The craftsmanship was excellent. We put the house on the market recently, and it sold in 2 days. People commented on the beautiful kitchen at every showing.

BQ&S remodeled the kitchen in our 1917 home. The kitchen was a design challenge--three doors and two windows--and we didn't want to increase the footprint. Ben did a great job designing a kitchen that would maximize the space, and provide all the features we wanted. He came up with some great ideas, and also listened and incorporated the ideas we provided. The work process was as painless as it could be. I was amazed at how clean the rest of the house remained, and they set up an almost fully functioning kitchen in our living room (we only had to do without a stove). The craftsmanship is top notch

Ben Quie and Sons added a first floor bathroom to our early 1900's house, and people often tell us that they had forgotten that we had that powder room. The interior was carefully matched to the woodwork and design details of our house so it appears that it has always been there. The addition affected the front façade fo the house and yet no one knows that the space is not original. Intelligent and sensitive design is matched by meticulous attention to detail in the construction. They also cleaned up the project every night so that we did not feel like we were living in a work zone.

Ben Quie and Sons did a large kitchen remodel and living room remodel in our 1917 bungalow. They specialize in older homes and we found that experience very helpful in updating our house. We appreciated working with Ben throughout the entire process from sales to design and through the construction. I can't say enough about their level of quality in workmanship and attention-to-detail.
