Hot Sun Industries
Solar swimming pool heating makes sense. A longer care free swimming season with no fossil fuels burned. Our unique flexible vinyl solution fits the available space with a proven long term history of durability, freeze tolerance, wind, and weather resistance ensuring your investment endures. We can interface properly and correctly with almost all roofing systems.

A ballasted framework securely supports our entire Powerstrip solar pool heating system using locally available materials. Fitted row by row capturing the full solar resource available while providing an agreeable esthetic. Fully repairable, durable vinyl based fin tubing is freeze proof and compatible with pool chemistry long term. Hot Sun's Powerstrip fin tubing can run horizontally because it is flexible meaning it can freeze solid full of water without being damaged by the expansion of water as it freezes.
Services
Hot Sun's history dates back to Vancouver BC in 1980 when a unique flexible vinyl based grid style solar collector named Solarmat was introduced. Hot Sun founder, Ken Wright, took over the manufacturing operation in 1986, only 2 years out of mechanical engineering school. The technology was tweeked and tested in Vancouver where hundreds of systems were installed in the 80's and 90's.
Each Powerstrip manifold corresponds to three 6 tube wide strips of fin tubing. This nominal one foot wide section fits row by row never covering the ends of the tiles, the part you see from the ground. Fitted to the roof space row by row we can angle the manifolds to match roof lines and we can go around vents.
If we run the flow sideways rather than up the roof, we can take advantage of roof hips and valley areas providing a solution that matches the roof lines and takes better advantage of the available solar resource. Shingle roofs must be penetrated in order to secure a solar pool heater. Our concept starts with properly securing a framework to meet wind loading requirements.
From 1996 to about 2014 our primary business model was manufacturing and supply direct to self installers all over the world. The skills required to do the installation are not extraordinary but there are design aspects of this that can be tricky. Hot Sun provides the expertise needed as part of our diy system offering.
Residential solar swimming pool heaters are usually plumbed using the same size pvc pipe as the pool equipment, normally 2" or 1.5". Notice in the typical arrangement shown in this schematic that filtered water flows through solar and then through the gas heater if there is one. Sometimes we reverse this order to put solar in a more favorable pressure environment.

Close to 20 years and still running:
I researched many solar systems 20 years ago. Ken's was the complete package - durability, frost resistance, smart system & installation; you want a system that operates in parallel under low pressure. Bottom line, Ken is an engineer and KNOWS what he is doing. I did the install myself and it took a little bit of work - I did some modifications to have a dedicated solar return because as an engineer, I understood the reasons why it was the best way. The results have been worth it.
I'm writing this to celebrate my 20th anniversary of trouble free pool heating

Living in Seattle area and having an in-ground pool, I knew that solar heating for the pool would be ideal. When it gets hot and sunny, solar pool heating works great. When it's cool and cloudy, it does not, but who wants to swim in that weather? Hot Sun caught my eye because they were based in our climate zone at that time and they would know how to design the system and know the caveats. And so they were! Ken was willing to help an eager DIY'er get started. That was 1999. Now, in 2021 we have used the pool every year and are still using most of the original installation. We replaced part of it

I completed a DIY installation of H2otsun Powerfin flat roof top solar system on my home in Southern California approximately four weeks ago. I thought that I would wait to write a review once the weather started getting warmer to see if the system would meet my goals. I'm very pleased to state, that the Powerfin solar is doing great. The water temperature at the bottom of the deep end of the pool is between 85-88 degrees. I have not had to augment the heating with the gas heating system. With Ken Wright's upfront guidance, I was able to complete the installation in 5 days. The main reason that

We bought Solar pool heating panels from Ken Wright, the owner and CEO of this business. The company has 2 Southern California addresses, which are essentially shipping addresses only. The company, Hot Sun Industries is actually based in Canada, which was not disclosed to us by Ken Wright.
Ken Wright referred us to his "contractor" David Nielsen in Phoenix, AZ - only to learn later that David is no contractor. Ken Wright had only given phone instructions to David Nielsen, as David later told us, David had NEVER received any actual training on how to install the solar panels by Ken Wright. Ken

We live in Gibsonton Fl just south of Tampa. Our pool is screened in and has quite a bit of shade. We were tired of having 80+ degree days and looking at our beautiful pool that was sitting around 57-60 degrees. Usually in June the water would be very pleasing to swim in. I wanted to find a way to lengthen our months of pool time. I also wanted something that I could install myself.

I am not sure how I happen to find Hot Sun Industries but I am sure glad I did. After speaking with the owner Ken Wright, I felt he was honest and very informative about what I needed for our particular location. I
