IPE is very dense wood, which can resist rotting. However to keep it looking nice, you need to seal it periodically (once every twelve months or so). Bear in mind that, IPE decks are tricky to refinish. Make sure you use the right sealer, most product out there are made for redwood and cedar. Not necessarily, you can find a high quality water base sealer on the market, that exceed oil base products.

I contracted All Pro Deck to refinish the decks and siding of my house for $5200. The work was not completed properly, and I asked them to return. The owner of All Pro visited the property, and the company emailed saying the decks were not finished properly, but the siding was fine. The siding looked exactly as it had before the work was completed. The owner came once again at my request and stated that the work wasn't completed properly because it was done when ash was falling during the northern fires, and there were
