Wayne Meyer Works is a small, responsive architecture practice dedicated to quality designs that are tailored to the needs, lifestyle, and budget of our individual clients. From our base in Oakland, we serve the entire San Francisco Bay Area from San Jose to Santa Rosa as well as the Lake Tahoe area.
We design thoughtful residential remodels, ADUs, additions, and new homes that enrich lives. We believe in modern architecture with open floor plans, clean lines, abundant natural light, and indoor-outdoor living. But, unlike some modern architecture that can feel cold and uninviting, we like to warm things up with rich materials such as natural wood, stone, and earthy metals.
We call this emerging style Warm Modern. Beauty matters-but to us, architecture isn't just about aesthetics. We want you to have so much more than a architebeautiful home. We believe cture should be a seamless fit for your personality, values, and lifestyle, so that each day of experiencing your home brings you joy and comfort.

You found a property with an incredible view. But can it actually be built on? If it can, we'll make it happen. We specialize in solving the most complex problems on the most challenging sites. Houses on steep, or even moderately sloping sites, involve complex geometry. Poor design can result in excessive site and foundation work, increasing construction costs.
Although it had a prime location in a chic San Francisco neighborhood, this "office" was really just a storefront with a rabbit warren of back rooms that felt more like a basement. But our client was a graphic designer who needed an inspiring, bright, open office. How to get from point A to point B? That's where we came in.
The Owner's of this Berkeley home wanted to add a second floor, but the City wanted an unpermitted sunroom to be torn down before they would consider any addition. At first, this put a sour taste in the owner's mouths-but when they saw our design for the addition they realized it was not only worth it, but were excited about this dramatic transformation of their house and back yard.
This design conscious homeowner knew she would have to expand her garage to turn it into an ADU, but didn't want the resulting structure to take over her back yard or block views from the house. With city-imposed setbacks, we had very little room to work with. Our addition is only 100 square feet, yet includes a galley kitchen and bathroom with a window wall that looks out onto nature.
One story up, there was a view of the ocean-if only the city would allow it. After stalling with their original architect, the client came to us wondering: Was adding a third story even possible? It was-and we figured out how. Getting projects approved isn't easy-especially in San Francisco. This is where our expertise, creativity and tenacity come in.

Gary was honestly a godsend!
He took on a very difficult project, and overcame several legal, structural, and regulatory obstacles, to bring my project to permit approval. The project was to renovate a 100+ year old, 3-story building, through the aforementioned obstacles, in a city as tough as SF - so it was no easy feat!
Gary navigated working with multiple stakeholders: me, my partner, the structural engineer, and a multitude of government officials. He's a very good listener, so he quickly understood the project's direction and was able to provide ideas and brainstorm in a way that

You can trust Gary Meyer. He is not only very honest and price conscious but also super creative. He came up with ideas for our unit extension that was amazing. While the unit has a great flow we also gained an extra parking space because he can think outside the box.
When we talked about adding a bathroom to a different unit he again made really smart design suggestions and we are saving a lot of money because of it. He knows SF code and he can work super fast. We will never use a different architect again. This one is a keeper.

Gary designed a remodel of our media room and garage, converting it into a full bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. He did an amazing job from start to finish and came up with design ideas that really took the space to the next level. He also worked with us to find a contractor who was amazing. I can't recommend Gary enough.

I never thought about hiring an architect for help us with our kitchen remodeling, but after talking to a couple of contractors, I realized a professional intermediary is needed to not just realizing the vision but also to manage the whole seemingly endlessly convoluted process. Fortunately, a mutual friend introduced me to Gary, and after our initial meeting, I knew I got my guy.
Gary understands modern esthetics! He streamlined the design process and was able to show us what we wanted to see but weren't able to say. More importantly, Gary took over the entire project, ranging from

Gary Meyer did an amazing job producing an architectural design for our interior residential remodel. He put in extra hours and demonstrated real creativity in helping us to build a nursery and also capture some unused space. Gary was professional, courteous, timely, and also helped us to save money during the construction phase. His experience with San Francisco's complicated permit system was also key. I highly recommend Gary for your job.

Gary Meyer of Wayne Meyer Works did an awesome job designing and hand building our wall length seating bench. Everyone loves lounging on it and it's a stellar design piece. Functionally it delivers with extra storage. The craftsmanship is obvious in the smooth glide of the drawers and warmth of the wood. We get many compliments on the bench. Gary put so much care and thought into the design process, making sure to get the proportions just right and helping us find the perfect wood to complement our house. He's great at communicating his ideas both in conversation and through drawings

We used Gary for our bathrooms remodel. After much consideration, we spoke to him and went through our first see through the site to figure out if this was the right fit for us. He indeed was, coming up with different sketches for what the new and larger bathroom would look like. From there we locked a specific look and immediately went forward with purchasing the materials and demoing the space.
Gary was great to work with while picking up materials and keeping an eye on the project as it progressed. If anything the price was worth for the final project which everyone has commented and loved
