MacCracken Architects has been a multi-service architecture firm since its inception in 1985. We have completed projects for clients in a broad geographic range from the San Francisco Bay Area, Napa Valley and Truckee to Boston and New York. Our design impetus begins with gathered information - client wishes and requirements, the site and its environment, culture and context - in an effort to blend pragmatic and poetic elements in our work.
We are inspired by the process of translating owner vision and program and site context into specific principles that lend rationale to our design work and result in beautiful, functionally excellent spatial environments. We emphasize the use of natural materials, opportunities for use of natural light and shadow, scale and proportion to establish a coherent language of architecture unique to client, place, and idea.

Services
A former 300,000 SF auto production plant was converted into individual maker spaces to accommodate tenants who range from woodworkers to brewmasters to drone fabricators to VR modeling. As a tenant amenity, MacCracken Architects was engaged to revise an 18,000 SF open space in the center of the floor plan to provide.
A 60,000 SF commercial seismic retrofit project including a new two story entry lobby with channel glass walls, and a suspended bridge connecting tenant spaces. A slowly growing business decided to consolidate and unify it's presence, with a multiple floor renovation of 40,000 SF. Workstations cluster together to provide a balance of connectivity and privacy.

When Steve and Daniel of MacCracken Architects walked into our Russian Hill condo last spring, we knew we'd found our architects: Friendly, articulate and oozing competence, they were immediately excited about the space, inspired by it, enthusiastic about the project. We eventually worked with Daniel and another architect of the firm named Hutch. They listened carefully to our needs from that very first day, and through the back and forth over the ensuing weeks we worked together to integrate our unique needs for the space into their creative vision.

Check out the diverse and impressive portfolio showcasing superb design! You don't come across an architect with such keen attention to detail and design who is also a superb mentor. Steve, the principal, is a studio director at San Jose State and I thoroughly enjoyed his classes. I learned the importance of the continuity of the design concept and the execution of quality work. We love our extensive remodel of a 1959 home, which kept the original footprint and preserved about 15% of our old house. Steve took our ideas and created a plan that opened the house to fully experience the surrounding oak trees and hills. The design features extensive use of wood on the exteriors, ceilings and windows contrasted with travertine floors and patio covering. The lines are very clean but the use of natural materials creates a warm and comfortable feeling. MacCracken Architects specified most of the hardware and appliances and supervised extensively during the construction. The results
