States Van Lines is a family owned business with honesty, integrity and all of the core values that you desire in a moving company. With more than 15 years of experience in the relocation industry, the people who started States Van Lines are the same ones who will work tirelessly to ensure that your move goes by without a hitch.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) regulations protect consumers on interstate moves and define the rights and responsibilities of consumers and household goods carriers. Your primary responsibility is to select a reputable household goods carrier and ensure that you understand the terms and conditions of the contract.
Even though moving is a broad term, every move isn't the same. Different customers have different requests. USVL is the biggest cheating moving company. They are highly unprofessional I ever dealt in my life. They will give you lower estimate to get the business and once they will take part payment from your credit card, they will increase the estimate [you will be trapped]. More over they didn't commit to their delivery dates. I had a nightmare following up with them on moving. They will call you 100 times, before taking advance amount, but they will not respond your calls after they will take money from you. It's a pathetic journey with them. I suffered a lot while I ordered one of the moving

I hired this company expecting a professional, honest and trustworthy company, however, what I got was, one quote to lock me in, then another price at pick up and another price at delivery...all more that my original quote!
My bed frame was lost and never found and the.60 the company will pay will not even come close to replacing it! out of 84 boxes 75 of them were crushed or smashed beyond repair, I had shattered items that again will not be covered under their .60. I was mislead and ignored time after time and when I asked to have a manager get involved, I was passed off and ignored by management

You never know what you run into when dealing with these guys. Since they are a broker, they subcontract other moving companies in your area to do the actual work.
In my case, I was not very lucky dealing with them. I was overcharged for the services and my furniture has been held for ransom at the delivery destination until I paid the amount they were asking. Given that this would be disputed with my credit card company, my experience dealing with United Van Lines was still very poor.
I recommend picking a broker that does some minor screening of which companies they hire.

I don't like giving 1 star ratings and generally choose to just not review very bad experiences. About 2% of my ratings are 1 stars, but this one is definitely earned and I felt it was important to try to help other consumers from the type of experience I had here. Read through the reviews here. The experience is pretty consistent among reviewers.
I would be very careful with this company and read the contract closely before signing. It is not what is in the contract, but what is not. That means you are relying upon what you are told in the verbal agreement. I would make sure to get in writing

This has been a horrible experience. I contracted with them two months in advance thinking I was being very courteous and giving enough time for them to coordinate a mover. Up until the time they collected my deposit I was getting excellent customer service and phone calls frequently. After that, things started unraveling, i.e. we were "bumped" off our original truck and they were working "very hard" to book us on another truck. We made numerous phone calls, pressuring their representatives to give us answers about who would pick up our household goods, can we speak to an upper

Three years ago I had a nightmare moving experience with a different company. When I was getting estimates for this move from Chicago to Arizona, I expressed my concerns that I did not want any of that to happen to me again. My sales rep, Joseph, explained how the whole thing worked. He was available for any questions or concerns that I had.
Yes, US Van lines is a broker.I was given a not to exceed estimate and told that if the weight was lower, the amount would be adjusted. I Asked Joseph to estimate high because of my past experience with that other company (now out of biz) . They carefully

Never use this company.
They are dishonest and do a bad job. They do not do the actual moving, they just find other people to do it. They give you a "will not exceed" estimate... that gets exceeded dramatically.
The sales person is nice and gives you tons of information that is not true. He says you will get lots of phone calls asking how your move is going and that they give you tons of information. NONE of that is true. As soon as you pay, you can't get a hold of ANYONE. I couldn't get any information and I moved my family across country based on the the VERY specific

I have moved many times and this is BY FAR the WORST moving company I have ever worked with.
I moved from NYC to Florida in June 2010 with United States Van Lines.
The sales person I worked with (Rocky) made a series of false promises about my move date that had me booking airline tickets to be at my apartment for a move and the movers never showed. They eventually came at a later date that I could not be there for and I had to have an older gentleman I know wait for them. The movers shook my friend down for $240+ in tips when the tipping was supposed to take place when the furniture was delivered
