Erwin Hills Wayside Furniture is a local, family owned business dating back to July of 1970 when owner, Terry Braswell, was living in Greensboro, North Carolina. After serving as sergeant with the Army in World War II, Terry was working at a freight line in Winston Salem where he saw furniture coming in routinely.
His entrepreneur spirit and desire for his family to live the American Dream, he took a chance and purchased their first shipment of furniture at wholesale. Their first store opened in 1966 in Greensboro, North Carolina just steps away from the furniture capital of the world, High Point. Terry and Molly enjoyed success in Greensboro and began their family; welcoming Tom, Doug, Teresa, and Mike.
This store was a two story building where Terry and Molly carried furniture up and down stairs daily so when Molly's parents offered them a tract of land in Asheville for a brand new (one level!) furniture store they accepted without hesitation.
