Start by writing your total income and expenses down. Your total income is what you bring home, excluding taxes, retirement, savings, insurance, and other deductions. For most people, their first car won't be their dream car, and that's okay. The average person can only afford a $300 a month car payment.

Went to purchase a car from the dealership and less than a month later the engine blew up on me. The dealer still wanted me to go through with the financing and not tell the financing company that it was in the shop. Then when I decided I didn't want the car they treated it like a repo and now I have two repossession on my credit from this one failed purchase. DON'T SHOP FOR A CAR HERE!
