Rust Construction was founded in 1920 by Robert "Doc" Rust when the Rust family farm was subdivided to create portions of the old Alexandria, VA neighborhoods of Rosemont, Braddock Heights, Timber Branch, Mt. Ida, and Beverly Hills. The company has served the community through the Great Depression, World War II, and most recently the Recession in 2008.
Tom Rust Sr. has run Rust Construction since 1973. Today, his sons, Tom Rust Jr. and Sam Rust, are part of the company leadership. Throughout our history of service, our team of experienced tradesmen and project managers has upheld the tradition of exceptional workmanship and responsible construction of commercial and residential projects.

Services
In a region that is home to many historic properties, we have developed an expertise for sensitive restoration and modernization of building systems. We believe that quality historic restoration requires an appreciation for the building and design practices of the past and a knack for properly blending old and new.
We gladly take on detailed restoration and wood working projects. We enjoy building custom specialties in our own shop or on the job site, and when a project requires it, we work closely with other experts. In addition to our own in-house expertise, we share building space with a cooperative of independent craftsmen who specialize in custom cabinetry and furniture.
Rust Construction was founded nearly a century ago. Our experience has led us to take a holistic approach that connects our bottom line with a sustainable vision for staying in business for the next 100 years. To do this we have come up with a set of goals for being a "Responsible Building" company.

Overall, I was very happy with Rust Construction and their approach to the work and issues. I've worked with many contractors and they have been the best contractor I've ever used. They are honest, deliver a high quality work product, think through all the details to ensure issues don't arise after they've begun construction, and overall nice people to work with.

After having experience with other general contractors, we were blown away by Sam and Tom’s professional approach to their work. Each week we had an on-site meeting with follow up on what we covered in writing for the entirety of our six month project. The job site was left clean each day and they took extra steps to make sure the house remained safe for our kids. The quality of the work is top-notch and they are so pleasant to work with!!! Highly rate Rust Construction, five big stars!!
