I love this store. Here's why:
1. It's a small business, not a huge corporation, so the selection is superlative and the owner Richard cares about the product quality, the customer's design objectives, and the ambiance and selection available in this store.
2. The owner Richard goes out of his way for customers who have special requests. I've often requested orders (i.e., to get a pair of something, etc.) and he is very realistic about availability, delivery, etc. He is also honest and will tell you if something won't match or work in a space. There is no other furniture

Upon entering the doors of Hawkes & Smythe I knew I finally came to the right showroom with its abundance of quality furniture, beautiful fabric samples, and unique room accessories. Richard, the owner, greeted me and listened to my desire for an updated, yet still elegant, look for the parlor in my Queen Anne Victorian house is Northern California. After viewing photos of the parlor with its colorful Bradbury & Bradbury wallpaper, he guided me through the myriad of sofas, tables, lamps, and mirrors. Shipping and delivery was a breeze due to Richard's diligence in keeping me apprised

I just left the store. I asked the salesman if I could look at leather samples of Hancock and Moore and was promptly shut down. He suggested that everyone comes in the store and wastes his time looking at samples and then orders on the internet. But if I wanted to place an order first, then he would pull out the leather sample book that he keeps hidden. So...... now I'm home...... and looking at the internet! Thank you so much for pointing me in that direction Sir. Needless to say, I won't ever step foot into that establishment again, in spite of it being the closest ( High end ) furniture store

Wow, I walked into the store and was approached by a huge dog! He was roaming around the store... There didn't appear to be anyone else in there so I am assuming it belonged to the rude gentleman who runs the store. This gentleman just watched as the dog ran towards me. I explained I am allergic and he just stared at me rudely and made no effort to control his 'guard' dog. I will never return to this store again. The guy who manages or is in charge was rude and clearly didn't care that he was losing our business. I can spend my money elsewhere

I love visiting and shopping at Hawkes & Smythe. If you are in the market for great quality furniture, this is the place to go. The couch I bought there at least 9 yrs ago is still comfortable, sturdy and beautiful. With Richard's (salesman) help, I just picked out two great living room chairs that are so nice and comfortable. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else to shop for good, quality furniture.

This is quite a beautiful store. Almost too pretty. It hides right behind the AMC Marina Pacifica 12 box office and has a wide selection of high-end furniture. This isn't IKEA for sure. There are a bunch of wealthy people living not too far from Marina Pacifica and my guess is that this is where they buy their furniture. Many of the items are unique, well-manufactured, and it is definitely not a Made-in-China type of furniture store.
I will admit, it can be a little intimidating to see a sofa that's priced the same as my mortgage payment or a wall mirror that's the price

I have never been treated rudely by the man in there even though I only purchased one small item years ago. I go into the store once in a great while because it has the most beautiful high end merchandise of any store for many miles around. We are lucky to have a furniture/ design business that carries the best of kind furniture & accessories for us to browse through, in Long Beach. And it is not a damp & subterranean at all. I would describe it as being on the first floor or garden level.

I recently purchased a high-end home and have spent a lot of time and money searching for the perfect furnishings and accessories. We visited Hawkes & Smythe's subterranean (damp and depressing)showroom to be greeted by the rude troll that works under the stairs of the Marina Pacifica shopping center. Not ony was the over stuffed troll uninterested in helping us, his evil stares and the psychotic under the breath insults were bizarre, rude, insulting, and comically disturbing. After complementing his selection, he sarcastically agreed and proceeded to mock our private conversation.
