I interviewed and got quotes for four different hardwood floor guys. Phil was the best communicator and was knowledgeable. He was not the cheapest but he was the best. I would say that he was the best value. He was hands-on, meticulous to detail and was able to adjust his work to some complications around sound proofing. We hired Phil to consult with us about a new hardwood floor in our 1880's cottage in Bernal Heights. We did this just as covid restrictions were about to lift in early spring 2021, when there were supply issues and other complications. Phil spent time with us and helped us figure out what flooring was going to work best with our house and renovation plan. He brought us samples and problem solved when renovation issues arose. Great to work with. Not only has a high attention to detail but also a great problem solver. We have an old house with lots of uneven floors. Phill helped us build up and level out multiple areas of the floor. He also did a fantastic job or installing over both existing hardwood and (very uneven) cement. And very happy with the finishing work he did in correcting errors our building contractors had made with squeaky stairs and unevenly laid boards.

I looked online to find a company that refinishes hardwood floors. I contacted Phil the Floor Guy and set up an appointment for an estimate. Phil came out, reviewed the job, and gave me a very reasonable estimate within one day. He started the job on the date I requested as I had other trades scheduled for later in the month. The job took three days as he had estimated. The finished job is fantastic! The floors look brand new. Being a tradesman myself, I am a little picky as to who I use for projects. I have hired Phil many times over the years for re-finishing or installing hardwood floors. I have also recommended him to several friends and acquaintances.
Phil always does top notch work, for a fair price. Doesn't matter if its the whole house or just a room or two. He takes care of little things that come up no problem and he has never bid the job up after he starts work. He is always punctual, respectful and cleans up completely after the jobs. Our guest bedroom has some severe water damage in one area of the floor. We contacted Phil The Floor Guy and he was able to replace the wood planks and match with existing flooring. He did an amazing job and I would not hesitate to recommend him. Two other floor companies wanted us to replace the entire floor but Phil reassured us that repairing damage would be fine and he was right!

Phil was amiable and had a good sense of humor to boot. I hired him to put in oak hardwood floors in my parents bedroom and they turned out beautifully. He recommended floating the tounge and groove flooring as opposed to gluing or fastening it down. I was a little skeptical at first but I'm glad we did it that way. It looks and feels super clean and there was no mess. I'd hire him again.

This is my fourth remodel and I have never worked with a tradesperson who communicates as well as Phil does. He always responds to my e-mails and texts in a timely manner. I was having reliability problems with the contractor that was supposed to do my floor. I met Phil at the gas station randomly and asked him if he could come by and give me a quote. I have had Phil refinish all of the floors in a previous home, and upon purchasing a new home that needed a lot of hardwood flooring help he was the first person that came to mind.

Our job consisted of a mix of refinishing existing mixed 2" strip oak and installing new 2" strip oak and replacing 2 stairways of treads with solid oak.

Really great and fast work! Phil installed my floors for my bedroom and closet in one day! I tore out my nasty carpets the previous day which was optional. He recommended if I do that it'll save me some money, so I put on a dust mask and got my hands dirty. I gotta tell ya the new hardwood floors are soooo freakin better than the stained ugly carpet I can't believe I waited so long to do it!
