Rust & Root Furniture combines Hawaiian hardwoods with contemporary design. You can become one of our clients for custom work, or come select a piece from our showroom. We strive to use mainly sustainably sourced local hardwoods for our furniture. The local woods that we use are all harvested from fallen trees on the islands of Hawaii.
Rust & Root is a custom furniture workroom capable of creating almost any design. From sawmills all across Oahu, we handpick lumber from an extensive selection of stunning Hawaiian woods, all sustainably sourced. Woods include monkeypod, milo, koa, eucalyptus, mango and many more. We also source woods from the mainland US and around the world.
Rust & Root is a full service custom workroom. Lead time for large tables is sixteen weeks. Some large slab tables may require longer lead times for material sourcing. Below, you'll find a gallery of past larger scale tables which include dining tables, conference/boardroom tables, countertops, bar tops and shelving.
Solid wood islands are a great way to increase counter space in a kitchen. Wood is a good alternative to stone or synthetic countertops, and a wooden countertop can last forever. Local hardwoods also bring warmth and depth into the kitchen, and can be made to either match or contrast with the rest of the cabinetry.
This is the largest conference table that Rust & Root has built to date, and the longest conference table in Hawaii. Very clean and slightly midcentury, this 16'x4' conference table changed the whole room as soon as it was delivered. Teak veneer for this top was specially selected for a high amount of figure, and the two halves match perfectly.

#Grateful ... I am for finding Rust & Root. Danny designed and created some of the most beautiful woodwork I've ever seen/had (see photos). I was in the midst of a horrible remodel. Danny designed and delivered a floating bathroom vanity, floating entryway console and custom AC condenser cover - all of which were beautifully crafted and perfectly fit to the spaces.

Danny is great to work with and an excellent craftsman. Pretty cool experience to show up at the shop, pick out your own slab of wood, and then have something custom designed to fit your space and needs. He provides so much value that other companies on the island can’t compete with. Highly recommended.

Danny is an exceptional artisan/furniture maker! He works with precision and artistry, and runs his business with high integrity, professionalism and heart, all rolled into one. I rarely write reviews, but felt like he needed to be honored for his work, so here I am. We wanted a unique large Monkeypod table, and did a lot of research all over the island for the best craftsmanship and overall value. Danny and Kristina are punctual, personable, pleasant and easy to work with. We trusted them to repair two chairs...that have been in the family for generations...dating back to the early 1900's. One had a large crack in the frame, the other had the whole back broken off. They now look like new and the price was far less than we had expected for the service. Great quality work, great experience, we highly recommend them!!!!

Danny and Kristina made us a sofa table and two end tables out of local monkeypod, and we absolutely love all three of the pieces. They were super easy to work with, pricing was very reasonable, and we've already received a ton of compliments on these one-of-a-kind pieces. We'll definitely work with them again and we'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for some beautiful, locally-made custom furniture. Great experience overall!

My interior decorator had drawn up a floor plan with specific sizes for the end tables and coffee table. I spent countless hours online searching for the right pieces that would match what I already had. By chance I found Rust & Root and decided it was quicker to order custom made pieces. Dan was most helpful in sketching the designs and picking out the wood. I couldn't be more pleased with how my three end tables and coffee table turned out. They are both practical and beautiful, and truly one-of-a-kind.

We ordered a custom monkeypod coffee table from Danny and it came out beautiful. When we have people over, they won't stop commenting about how amazing the table looks and they assume it cost 3x the actual cost. Danny was super friendly, down to earth, took the design elements I wanted and made it better, kept me up to date about progress and finished it when he said he would. Couldn't ask for better customer service and craftsmanship. The table will last a lifetime and is truly a one of a kind piece of furniture. Danny and his partner did a really great job. I was originally going to spend only 800-900 bucks on an Ashley furniture bedframe at the NEX but upon talking with Danny I decided to splurge a bit on a bedframe from him instead custom made for me. This allowed me to set my Temperpedic BedRiser/Boxframe and my Serta Form mattress together without it being to large for me to get up (it's still rather high but I like it that way!).
He was very professional and the whole job after Taxes cost about 1400 dollars which is about average considering other big box places charge around the same for much
