There are definitely other companies in the area that will perform a service at a lower price, but in my experience with some of the others I used before J & J, the old adage 'you get what you pay for' rings true. Everyone I came in contact with at J & J was incredibly courteous and professional. BE CAREFUL!!! I have lived in my home for a year and half and have never had a septic tank before. I found this company through a google search and despite some questionable reviews gave them a call. I asked if they could come out and locate and do an inspection on the septic tank. They were very nice on the phone and after moving the appointment once showed up when they said they would.

I just had the worst experience with J &J. The phone person was kind and gave me a quote of $350. They told me there was a $50 dollar fee to find the lid. When the technician came out he quickly found the lid and told me that with the digging which was 18 inches and removing the sludge from the top of the tank it would be $850. They had never seen my tank or if there was sludge. I told them it was unfair not to tell me about those charges up front but they refused to do it for the agreed upon price. I would have gladly paid extra for the digging but they insisted on me paying a $99.00 service charge

I didn't know where my septic tank was so I was worried about them digging up everywhere to find it and charge me a lot of $$$ to do it. But in less than 5 minutes he found the tank and dug only one hole and was gone in less than 45 minutes- super painless process! I highly recommend them to anyone.

I live in Arizona but I'm moving to the Knoxville area soon and am purchasing a house there from across the country. I needed to have my septic tank inspected and found J&J thanks to Google and after reading the reviews decided to go with them. Since all the reviews are five stars, I wanted to go ahead and share my experience.
First off, everyone was incredibly friendly, even when I questioned what I was charged for the work. My technician (who I won't name so as not to shame him, as that isn't the point of this) was nice even when I was bluntly telling him I felt like I was being over charged

I am new to the area and read the previous reviews about fees for digging. I will be honest and say that it had me a little concerned to begin with and I called and spoke with several members of the J&J team prior to them arriving at the new home that I was purchasing. It is true that they do not want to give you a price over the phone for the digging fees and I can honestly understand this due to J&J not being able to see the conditions and not wanting to have an upset customer. She called me at work to ask if we should authorize J&J to charge us $499 to use 'special equipment' to unearth the opening to the septic tank for pumping and inspection. Taking this statement at face value, I agreed to it.
Turns out the 'special equipment' was a shovel and digging bar and the work took no more than 30 minutes; a shovel and digging bar are quite standard, nothing special about them. I think I could have done it in 10 with my mattock. The invoice was for $1072, the other items reasonably priced. This charge, however
