Employee arrived early despite being told I wouldn't be available earlier. Showed up again before the appointment time and then complained how long he waited and left just before the scheduled time. Shocking behavior especially during a pandemic and businesses are suffering.

As a new resident of Highland Park I contacted Athanans Fencing. I could not have been happier with the results. They quickly obtained permits and rapidly installed my fence. The owner Jeff was great. He stopped by several times to make sure the job was being done correctly.
Their pricing was very fair or less than some of the bigger names fence companies that did not bother to return our calls.

Do not use this company! Had a very expensive black aluminum fence installed 5 years ago. I was hoping that this fence would last for 30 years and I've had nothing but problems. First, Athanas red our play wrong and installed the fence 6 ft inside of our property line. Then, a year later the posts shifted and looks awful. Now our self latching gates don't line up and they won't return our calls. Also. The same posts keep shifting.

Wow.. owner came out to repair a job that didnt hold up.. said he'd fix it for free.. billed quote for 450 bucks.. called owner 5 times to talk about it.. no answer. finally got a hold of him. he apologized and said he'd stay true to his word and that his office manager had send the quote. the work was done and i was billed 250 dollars. called numerous times again to figure out what had happened AGAIN, to get billed. no answer. explained that i wasn't going to pay for a job that i was quoted for free.. just got a professional email from the owner.. "don't ever call my company

Stay clear of this company. The math to compute the cost of the quote wasn't accurate. They measured too many linear feet and therefore had a bigger number. Also, once they get your check and you have a problem which I did with vertical boards slipping down, they don't return phone calls. I've left four messages and no calls returned. I renailed the boards myself. There's too much good competition to mess with this company. Keep going.

I have used this company since 2007 totaling $4,300 in services. The last job they installed metal posts to hold iron custom fence and gates. The center post simply fell over the week of July 3, 2016. I discovered the post was only placed 1.5 inches into the ground. I contacted the company and sent them photos a full description and copies of past receipts showing how much I have spent with them as a customer. I also sent them a proposal that I felt was fair. It also included a gate on the opposite side of my home that also has problems.

The worst fence/small business on the NorthShore. The first time they showed up, they tore down a neighbors fence instead of mine. The next time they came, they installed the fence and didn't use concrete to set the posts, just sand. The third time they cam to fix the issue and replace with concrete, they used a gravel and sand mix. The fence is one year old and the posts are coming out of the ground. He doesn't back his warranty and has is blocking my calls. Jeff is a dishonest thief. Stay away from him and his company. He is a con artist that promises you one thing and then you

I've used Athanas Fence twice. The first was in 2010, and they replaced a large section of perimeter fence that grew loose over time. The second time, in May 2014, they replaced a different post and re-attached the existing panels of fence to the new post. The May 2014 receipt for $425 indicates a two-year warranty on the materials and work.

I've used Athanas three times: the first time to install an aluminum fence (they did a nice job), the 2nd time to fix a part of the fence we'd damaged and the last time to install a wooden fence. During the 2nd job I asked the guys to add a small amount of cement where they'd previously installed railing going up outdoor stairs (the cement had receded). Suddenly, the men disappeared without addressing my simple request. That should've been a hint to me. Instead we used them for the last job. They were to start the height of a wooden side fence where the back fence ended

Apr 2016 update: as expected the gate posts that were put too close together have jammed the gate shut. Jeff knew last yr & said he'd replace if it shifted. Well, first he looked at it & they're fine, then he said never actually looked because they never did the work. Had record & his writing acknowledging the posts were repaired wrong & he'd correct if necessary. Then, oh yeah, I'll look at them. 2 weeks & 6 calls-no response. THIEF!!! Stay away!! I rec'd him to AT LEAST 15 people & he made a lot of money off my refs. Despicable treatment

I think these guys are great. They're friendly and responsive on the phone, they send out nice, friendly, competent workmen who do a great job. No muss, no fuss, just good honest workmanship. They deliver just what they promise. Highly reliable. Very reasonable pricing. I've used them to rebuild major portions of my yard-surrounding fence, do the inevitable sagging-gate repairs, etc. Always a very satisfying experience. They even upgraded some gate posts gratis once. I highly recommend them.
