We are a Family-Owned Massachusetts Moving & Packing Company located in Ayer, MA moving clients across towns, states and the country. Family-owned and operated since day one, Ayer Moving and Storage takes the moving business personally. Karen Strickland and her brother Philip lead the Ayer Moving and Storage team, guided by the philosophy of their Dad, Eldon Strickland, who passed away in 2020.
Whenever possible, begin your preparations at least four to six weeks before your planned moving day. There is a lot to do and that day arrives quickly! The first step is deciding what to move and what not to move. Then you should schedule a visit from Ayer Moving & Storage. One of our relocation specialists will come to your home to complete a room-by-room inventory in order to complete a true estimate.

Really glad I chose Ayer Moving & Storage for my second move in the past year. After renting for almost my entire life, I finally bought a house 1-1/2 hours away from my past location. What a relief to see one of the same movers from last year again this year—the first time I have ever seen continuity in moving. The guys were professional, ultra-efficient and delivered everything ahead of schedule without the slightest dent or scratch. This included hand-painted plates that are a family heirloom, handed back to me immediately by the supervising mover when we arrived. The new home is my forever

I’m Ten and Dan Peterson. We used your service on Thursday 12 August. We are so happy with this moving company. The price is underestimate which is make us so happy. Team that you sent to us today was AWSOME, super nice. I feel bad for them to work on the hottest day. We bought them a brunch of water and cooler also lunch. Those kids are great for doing this job. We were a little anxious over the move, but Karen was very nice to deal with. As the owner, she always returned our calls/emails promptly and answered our questions. The office staff were pleasant to deal with and our three movers were outstanding. The movers, with William as the leader, showed up on time, started working right away and took the steps necessary to make sure our furniture was well cared for.

Awful, awful, awful experience. If you use them, GET THE INSURANCE. We moved out of state from Massachusetts last month. We were quoted 4 movers and 8 hours, they came in 2 shifts and each time had 3 movers, 1 was only responsible for logging and labeling so we really only had 2 movers. It obviously took well over 8 hours total. That's not the worst part. When our truck arrived to Kansas City, they opened the door and there were boxes and furniture just thrown about, not just move related shuffling but everything was everywhere. We had damages to almost every piece of wood furniture

I had a great experience with Ayer Moving and Storage. The team of guys that showed were careful and diligent. I used their services to pack loose items in boxes and they made sure appropriate items were packed together. They worked very hard and efficient. I would highly recommend using them!

I highly recommend Ayer moving and storage. This has been the best experience that I have had moving.

Cons: even with a "video survey" where they go through your entire house with all your stuff they low ball you on their estimate to get your business. Then you're stuck with them and whatever they charge you they charge you. We asked for an estimate for them to PACK our entire house, store then move our belongings. We ended up packing 90% of our belongings before they got there. We were quoted $5300 for EVERYTHING and still paid $5100 after they barely packed anything!!! They charged us for an extra truck they somehow didn't realize they needed

Everything seemed to be ok until the day we moved into our brand new house. Our furniture had been in storage with them for 9 months while our house was being built. The workers were pleasant enough but took no care while moving our things in. Our beautiful hardwood stairs were so scratched up from them bringing furniture upstairs. There was no care taken to avoid it. I thought they would have put something down on the floors and railings to make sure nothing happened. Nope. Just finished a 4 day move with this company. It was an utter disaster from pack day to delivery day. The crew wouldn't take a tv off the wall or move items from attic and the salesperson selling the company to me said these would not be a problem. Crew arrived without box cutters or packing materials. Some crew were day temps with no training. My furniture was badly damaged and / or lost as a result of careless handling. The president of the company at best told me it was a busy moving week so I shouldn't expect much and at worst, hung up on me when I phoned to address a concern with

We contacted North American Van lines for a quote and they sent out Ayer moving and storage. The agent promised a quote that day, I received it four days later. Then proceeded to get two more revised quotes as he forgot to include certain things. Questions I asked via email would be answered only partially and felt like I had to drag things out of him to get the information I needed. Was told I needed to put down a deposit to secure my move date, and that it would be refundable. When I receive the contract to sign it clearly stated it was nonrefundable. The absolute biggest waste of money and time EVER. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY. Their employee Pamela Lewis is an absolute f*cking horror in every essence of the word! She was a witch over the phone when we made the reservation the night before. We told her we would pick up the truck at 1130am bc we had to drive from Rhode Island and she starts calling us at 9 am saying she's waiting for us when we told her already when we would arrive!!! Threatening to not let us rent the truck that we needed, wasting HOURS OF OUR TIME (it is now 1pm and we are still here) and telling us

If I could give them no stars, I would. Ayer moving company moved us last summer. They seemed to just throw items into boxes while packing. Due to their lack of packing & moving our things appropriately, a number of items were damaged. In submitting a claim, we were told to contact a certain individual for repairs. We have left a number of messages for this individual but when he doesn't call us back & we report it to Ayer Moving Co, they just tell us that he is the only one that can help us. At this point, we intend to call a local news station to see if their consumer assistance

Yes, I read the reviews here before selecting Ayer Moving, but I wanted to use a local, family owned company.
Pros
Rates are fair. Unlike others (Gentle Giant) they charge you for the time they're working, versus getting from and to their facility.
The movers work. Getting paid by the hour, there's some motivation to slack, but our team didn't.
Careful. We lost nothing, nothing was broken or damaged.
Cons
Not great, at least in our case, on follow up. Sales agent said he'd stop by a day or two before the move to check in, and we had to reach out to him. Also, we didn&apos

Update 4: we have finally had a chance to unpack most items and file a claim for missing/damaged items with North American. My prized die cast airplanes were thrown into a box without any packing and are destroyed. We are missing a number of boxes, noted on the manifest, including one that had some expensive wine and all my wife's summer clothing and most of her business suits. Worst decision ever to use Ayer.

This was the worst move experience we've ever had. The movers at our origination were lazy, careless, and showed up 6 hours late. They complained the entire time, took shots of alcohol, and were on their phones regularly. Worst of all, they ran out of boxes, tape, and brown moving paper. We had to purchase these items in order for them to complete their job. (I'm sorry, but I can't take your company seriously if you run out of supplies...Note, we were never reimbursed for this, and I estimate we spent at least $70 on 10+ rolls of tape and plastic crates to serve as "boxes."

Ayer moving and Storage packed my goods and moved them into storage on their site in two installments, before listing and before closing on my house. The packers and movers on both ends of the move were very competent and professional, and adapted well to our schedules. After a month or so in storage, the goods were loaded and delivered complete, intact and quickly into my new house.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I would hire this company again to do my moving.

Spend the extra money, and use a different company!!
This was by far the worst move I've ever experience out of my 3 moves so far (state to state, not within the same state). The crew that came to my residence was extremely unprofessional, and shady. They worked at a very slow pace, and took frequent breaks. The inventory they created was almost impossible to read and later came back to haunt me when I tried to file damages and claims against them.
My wife is still missing a necklace and pair of ear rings which thankfully
