Hughes Plumbing & Utility Contractors, Inc. has contracted for many types of construction, from heavy civil, dredge material removal/disposal, deep excavations, sewer, water, storm sewer, new pump station installations, pump station renovations, horizontal jack and bores, horizontal directional bores, Onsite Wastewater Treatment Plants, asphalting and concrete installations, all self-performed by HPUC.
With our wide range of experience and own equipment, we can handle any type of utility installation. Our excavator fleet ranges from 3.5 metric ton to 36 metric ton excavators including 3 each Komatsu PC 290 Long Reach Amphibious/Marsh Buggy Excavators, 3 each Volvo 30 metric ton long reach excavators, etc.
Our Horizontal Jack and Bore machines allow us to regularly perform bores ranging from 6" D.I. to 60" D.I. We own and operate HDD boring machines up to 80,000lb push/pullback. HPUC holds current General Contractor's Licenses in Alabama and Mississippi.

Hughes Plumbing & Utility Contractors, Inc. (HPUC) was founded by Preston W. Hughes III in April of 1997. Preston is the youngest of six sons of Preston W. Hughes Jr., one of the first African Americans to be licensed as a Master Plumber in the state of Alabama. Three of the brothers are licensed Master Plumbers; the others have Journeyman Plumber's Certificates.
