The following excerpt is based on their findings. Awnings should be cleaned once a year, depending on the conditions where you are (soot, pollution, foliage debris). Brush off the loose dirt, hose the awning down and clean with a mild soap (not detergent) in lukewarm water. Don't use chlorine products (bleach) to scrub an awning - it can rot the awning over time.
