A reputable company should be glad to visit and inspect the apparent damage without charge. Be prepared to allow a more extensive inspection in areas where damage may be less apparent. There are steps you can take to help prevent damage, though there is no surefire way to prevent all damage from occuring.
One major cause of foundation damage is excessive moisture from broken or leaking water/sewer lines. Water saturated soil will not support most foundations indefinitely unless the foundation is secured to the bedrock. Have a plumber do a static test on your lines every five years. Though too much water is dangerous, so is too little, especially in dry regions of the country.

We hired Bats for the foundation, obviously. This was a very pleasant experience from start to finish. They came out gave an estimate. We set the date to start work. However, we were in bit of a rush so I called back to see if there was any way they could start the work sooner. Bats was able to move our start date up a little. Which helped us a lot.
The day finally arrived. The crew was running a tad late but the contractor notified us. Communication made everything ok. The contractor Jose and his crew arrived on a Friday to start the prepping. These hard working men went to work fast. Digging

The Bats Foundation folks went above and beyond. There was a minor setback with the leveling of an addition to our main house. The Bats team had there foundation expert out ASAP to inspect the issue and made “making it right” a priority. We are beyond satisfied, would certainly use them again and have recommended them to a neighbor. There crews are professional and efficient.

When you talk to an engineer with over 40 years' experience, you can feel confident in the assessment. Even when the assessment is that there's no need to do anything to your foundation. Bats came out and took every imaginable detail into consideration when "diagnosing" a perceived issue in our garage. While, yes, the foundation of our house is not 100% level, we fall into the "minor nuisance" instead of the "major issue" category. Foundation repair might be in the cards some day in the future, but "the foundation is holding up the structure."

Bats was the third foundation company I called. Not only did they give me the lowest cost estimate, but the inspector explained why the other companies were so high - they were overselling the amount of work needed. The crew was on time, professional, polite and efficient. Jose the crew lead ensured all my questions were answered and that I was perfectly satisfied with the completed work. Can't recommend Bats Foundation Repair enough. I would contract them for any future foundation work I may need without hesitation.

Last week we used Bats Foundation Repair for our family house. The process was quick and easy, only took them 2 days to finish. They where honest and gave a lot of explanation about the hole process. Excellent! I have a very unique situation where my house has both pier/beam as well as a concrete foundation. The concrete portion was washed out 20 years ago due to a City water line break and left my garage hollow underneath supported only by the concrete beams. Three piers were installed when the line broke but the garage was never stabilized as the stone veneer cracks continued to spread and the garage floor started to sink. I first had the “void” filled with cement slurry and then had Bat’s Foundation come out and install additional solid steel piers to bedrock. The team was very knowledgeable
