The Sashwright
At The Sashwright Co., we specialize in wood window restoration and energy efficient replacement windows for the Portland, Lake Oswego, OR & metropolitan area. Our work starts with a needs assessment. If you're ready to get your windows or doors restored, installed, or repaired, you can book an assessment now and we'll be in touch to confirm our appointment.

Properly restored windows often last longer than replacements and maintain the integrity of your historic home. It's often the environmentally responsible choice-as well as the most elegant. We can supply and install any window on the market-including custom windows-that look beautiful, perform flawlessly, and offer outstanding energy efficiency.

If our assessment reveals that you can get as good or better results from repairing your old windows, we will fix what's broken. This is often a more economical and sustainable choice. Use the slider below to see the difference quality restoration can have on your old, damaged, and worn windows.
Services
Stephen Colvin's passion for fine craftsmanship began in the finishing department at Portland's iconic custom furniture workshop, The Joinery, at age 16. At the age of 23 he became a partner in a local contracting company.
As your home ages, the moving pieces wear down or break, especially windows and doors. Combined with the damp Pacific Northwest climate, wood windows may rot or swell shut. Layers of paint clog channels and mask the original beauty of the window design. No matter what era in which your home was constructed, eventually you'll need to do something about worn, drafty, or damaged windows.
If you care about preserving the character of your home-whatever the era or style of design-restoration, rather than replacement, is the only way to go. Because we can restore the beauty and function of your windows in a way that respects not only the original design, but also the environment. Restoration is hands-down the most environmentally responsible choice when it comes to dealing with damaged or worn windows.
Whether you need to replace windows that are beyond repair, adding a new addition onto your home, or building an ADU in the back yard, we can install new windows and doors for you. We pride ourselves on providing the finest high-performance window products to replace or install in your home. Windows should not need to be replaced due to design failure.
Newer homes and luxury apartments and condos need love too! At The Sashwright Co., we service any period of housing design with new, restored, or sometimes simple repairs. We want to help you have beautiful windows that function flawlessly AND keep unnecessary materials out of the landfill. Often the best course of action isn't all new windows for a home, but a combination of new and repaired windows.

Got back to me within an hour! Even though they are booked up for 9 months, I was impressed with their energy, passion for windows, and impressive repair niche.

I am incredibly picky, and I am sure I'm not the most easygoing customer. I love my historic home, and when it comes to someone working on it, I know just what I want and expect contracts to work on my home as if it was theirs. I have only be pleased with two contractors over the years, and one of them is The Sashwrite.

Stephen and Carl are fantastic craftspersons. They both show passion for both their work and historic architecture.
My storm windows exceeded my expectations for both performance and appearance. My home is so much more comfortable now, and maybe more beautiful than before

While I have not yet gotten to work with this company, I had SUCH a positive experience with the initial call that I feel like I need to leave this review.
I have a 50yo house that needs a ton of work, and I've been doing most of it myself, partially because of cost, and partially because of some terrible experiences with contractors. The few things I don't feel confident enough doing myself or with friends who have build experience I try to hire somebody who not only knows what they're doing, but are also honest and upfront about what needs to be done. Windows are absolutely one of those things

Stephen is super responsive and easy to work with. He is clear about timelines and what is going to happen. But most of all, their craftsmanship is impeccable. We have an old house with lots of issues, they helped us restore some old house charm with beautiful new doors.

We own a 1914 craftsman with original wood windows downstairs. We hired Sashwright to do maintenance on eight of the windows that were painted shut, with cut cords, when we purchased the house a few months ago. We picked them after getting quotes from 3 others and are incredibly happy with our decision. Stephen and Carl were incredibly knowledgable about their craft, did amazing work, and gave us a product we feel great about. I'd happily use them again, but I suspect our windows will work well now for a long time to come!

We had 6 almost 100- year old original windows sills and sash completely restored on the front of our house recently by The Sashwright Co and we can strongly recommend Stephen Colvin and his lead carpenter Carl, for their integrity, commitment, responsiveness and ease of working with during a project with some challenges which included custom wood mill work, working around window awnings, a Juliet balcony on the second floor window blocking access, and more. In each case they provided excellent work and commitment to getting the job done in a professional manner. Highly recommended.

A wind storm blew out a large storm window on our house. Because we live in a historic district, the replacement must match the original window of the home. After getting several quotes we decided to use Sashwright. Stephen and his crew were very professional, friendly and competent. We opted to replace all 3 storm windows on that side of our home. The price was very reasonable, the work was meticulous and the responses to all of our questions were prompt and helpful. I would highly recommend this company for any of your window installation needs.

Sashwright was wonderful to work with. Stephen was immediate in his responses to all our questions and communications. The finished crafted products -- in our case, custom wood storm windows -- were beautifully made and fitted. A replacement window insert was meticulously installed. The final cost was exactly what was estimated and expected, and timelines for installation were carefully specified and met.
We strongly recommend Sashwright for anyone who loves their original wood windows and wants to keep them safe and sound for another lifetime or two. The experience of working with them was a

Stephen is so passionate about customer service! We contracted Sashwright for a door job to fix a tricky installation we had attempted ourselves. Stephen was communicative throughout the bidding process and his head carpenter, who finished the work, was kind, professional and interested in excellence. Thanks, Sashwright! Can't wait to add some south facing windows with you one day!

Looking through our new window is like a whole new world. We bought our house from the original owner who hadn't run it down, but hadn't kept it up either. Our kitchen window over the sink had a broken pane and was impossible to open. I was referred to Sashwright from a friend, and although the window wasn't cheap, it was worth every penny. We got a beautiful, double-hung, tilt pack (which means you can tilt it in to wash it from the inside) and now I can actually SEE the beautiful street outside my house! It opens as smooth as butter, and even before they installed the hardware, I could easily

Stephen provided the best customer service out of any contractor or tradesperson that I have ever worked with. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and transparent. He was very responsive and a clear communicator. He took the time to review all of the options I had for window repair and replacement and gave me sound advise as to the best bang for my buck. I will certainly be returning to the Sashwright in the future for any window-related needs.

I haven't actually had any work done by Stephen and The Sashwright, but I wanted to take a moment to leave this 5 star review. I have a unique project with unique needs, and they were so immediately responsive, professional and informative that it really impressed me. He gave me options for solutions, and was very open about the expense, pitfalls and other possibilities. It was much appreciated, and I think it will help me get the project completed.

We had a pair of vinyl windows with broken lift mechanisms. Stephen knew which parts we needed & told me where I could get them locally. With his encouragement & guidance I save a few hundred bucks by doing the work myself and now know how to maintain another part of my home! I'm super grateful!!

We love our windows.
Thank you for all your advice and pointing us to the Marvin windows. And then for installing them for us.
I know this wasn't your usual project since you refurbish vintage windows, and a tiny project for you, but you were extremely conscientious and helpful all the way throughout the project.
And the windows --now installed -- look wonderful.
Without my bidding my husband said he thought noise was cut down with the new windows. He also said he was thinking that they would look nice aesthetically but he was surprised how much better they looked and how they opened up the
