Our projects range from modest kitchen renovations to high-end new homes and cabins, placing an equal emphasis on style and function, woven together with the thread of ecological design, and mindful of cost. We are intrigued by multigenerational houses, backyard cottages, co-housing, townhouses and multi-family projects. We can bring the Passivhaus approach to any of these building types. With deep roots in Seattle, we are uniquely qualified to help you create lasting, beautiful buildings.
Our clients choose the style of their projects, but left to our own devices we like to design modern Pacific Northwest architecture that combines the warmth and generosity of the Craftsman style, the freedom and inventiveness with form, detailing and materials of modernism, and the outstanding energy performance of Passive House.

Services
All of our work is based in "lyrical sustainable design": conserving energy and resources, using healthier materials and finishes, reducing long-term costs, and making poetic places. We work with consultants, contractors and suppliers who share our values. This results in a convivial, collaborative design and construction process.
We provide start-to-finish professional services for the design of cabins, single-family houses, outbuildings, multigenerational houses and small multifamily and commercial buildings, including feasibility studies, code research, programming, conceptual or preliminary design, construction documents ("working drawings") and construction administration.
We've outlined our aspirations for the work we do in our own "manifesto." Our goal is to make a place for you that fits like a glove, works like a charm, and doesn't cost you more than you want to spend. Our cards are on the table - now it's your turn! It will let you tell us all about what you have in mind for your project.
Passivhaus offers a well-proven, predictable, cost-effective way to make superbly comfortable, durable and ruggedized buildings, while at the same time reducing the heating and cooling demand of those buildings by up to seventy-five per cent (75%!) and overall energy use by up to fifty per cent (50%)!
The manifesto is in three parts - together they describe the principles behind our work, the techniques we use, and an excerpt of a parable of lyrical sustainable design called "The House of Four Seasons." More recently I wrote another manifesto of sorts that describes the kind of houses we'd like to design, once in a while.
