CTA Design Builders
Your home is your most personal of places; a sanctuary where you can express what is most meaningful to you. This belief guides our work: we design homes and remodels that are functional, beautiful and a joy to live in. Our homes enrich the lives of our clients.

Our new homes and DADUs span a range of architectural styles and have in common our key design principals: connection between inside and outside, floor plans that foster comfort, functionality and ease of living, and thoughtful attention to beautiful details within the owner's budgets. Our goal is to create an addition that will integrate well with your existing home and site.

We consider additions as an opportunity to either enhance the existing style of your home, OR to transform the house into something very different. Each project is so unique! We believe that remodeling an existing home is often the most sustainable way to upgrade a home. We assess your home to understand how best to work with what is existing, carefully consider what your needs are, and combine what we find to best inform the areas of new design.
Services
CTA Design Builders has been a successful architect-led, design-build practice in the Pacific Northwest for over 20 years. Located in Seattle, we specialize in designing custom residential homes, additions, and remodels. Whether contemporary or traditional in design, urban or rural in setting, we work with our clients to create timeless homes that become the place they most want to be.
We design new homes, remodels and additions through-out the greater Seattle area and the Pacific Northwest. Working closely with each client, our goal is to discover and create a personalized dwelling that feeds one's spirit and is an expression of one's self. We bring a humanist design philosophy to our work, believing that "home" is so many things: a retreat, a sanctuary, a place for nurturing, and a place to gather with friends.
CTA has worked on new homes and remodels throughout the Seattle area and the Northwest, including the San Juan Islands, the Methow Valley, and Chelan. When considering new construction, an addition, or remodeling - call us to start a conversation about the possibilities. Let us help you create a home you'll love!
We design new homes throughout the greater Seattle area and further afield: Chelan & east of the Cascades, Bainbridge Island, the Kitsap Peninsula and the San Juan Islands.

Our new homes span a range of architectural styles, but have in common our key design principals: connection between inside and outside, floor plans that foster the full range of activities that a home must support - from large open public spaces to small intimate nooks, good natural daylight, and attention to beautiful details as well as our owners' budgets.
Most addition projects also include some amount of remodeling. An addition must integrate well with the existing house, both visually and in plan; with our holistic approach, we look at the entire house and site as we assess the possibilities. We consider additions as an opportunity to either enhance the existing style of your home, OR to transform the house into something very different, especially in the case of adding a second story.

Hired CTA to do an evaluation of a potential addition to our home. Received the work back along with a bill for more than double the cost we had discussed. The work was fine but very disappointed in the communication and adherence to agreement on the cost scope of the work.

We are so glad that we chose CTA to remodel our house!! Julie and her team truly heard what we wanted, even when we couldn’t articulate it, and they used their skill, knowledge, and inspiration to create a design that we couldn’t be happier with. We moved back in 6 months ago, and still every day are delighted to live in this home that has been so thoughtfully designed.
The scope of our project was major and comprehensive—going from two small dormers upstairs to a full second floor, a complete first floor remodel, additional roof deck, and excavating a basement crawl space into usable storage

We had been looking for a design-build company in Seattle, that could handle all aspects of the remodel of our mid-century home, when we came upon CTA’s listing and liked their work. We wanted to start the process with a redesign of our master bedroom/ bathroom suite, with hopes of someday moving on to other parts of our house. We didn’t feel we had a large enough project to hire a large architectural firm, and had actually been turned down by one company when they heard it wasn’t a whole-house remodel. We hoped to find a ‘one-stop shop’ that could not only design the rooms, but hire

As a licensed general contractor doing business with CTA, and as a former employee, I have high respect for Buzz and Julie. They are experienced, fair and above all, care about design and the quality of product handed over to the client.
As a design professional, Julie Campbell is a strong advocate for her clients while steering them towards tasteful and yet modern design.

We worked with CTA for a complete remodel of the MidCentury Modern house that I grew up in, so the stakes were high. We needed to honor the house but make it work for us, while keeping family members happy that we showed respect to the house in which they were raised. CTA did a fabulous job. Julie had great vision but was still flexible when we wanted to change things. The contracting side was a breeze - they showed up on time, did meticulous work and we never had a complaint from neighbors about cars, noise, or debris. We are really happy with the process and the result.

Imagine it: a 1960’s split level entry house on the Eastside. Can’t get much uglier than that – or annoying! When you have middle school kids with giant backpacks who play in orchestra (cello and violin) there is just NO ROOM for everyone to fit in the tiny entry way. We consulted several other area architects and while they were nice and had great reputations, all of them wanted us to add a gable-style (ugly) structure to the front of the house to expand our entry. All – except Julie from CTA Builds! She designed a simple, efficient, modern looking entry for our home with a shed roof â€

These guys are awesome! They did part 1 of my 1952 remodel in 2011. Now I'm going back to them for part 2. I can hardly wait. Julie and Buzz are great to work with!

We thoroughly enjoyed our collaboration with CTA. Everyone there was responsive, personable, and creative. Our project morphed during the process - growing and shrinking - until we got it just right. In the end we could not afford to do all we wanted, but will definitely engage them again when it comes time to launch phase two!

After seeing some of architect Julie Campbell and CTA's other residential projects, we decided this was who we wanted to help us design and renovate our home. We were not disappointed. Julie has a keen sense of design that's manifested in the big picture as well as the small details. Besides all the typical aspects of remodel work, we also sought her advice on light fixtures, furniture choices, artwork, landscape features, and other things. When we could have gone astray with some bad aesthetic decisions, she tactfully convinced us otherwise. We love the finished product! It's a very contemporary

We had an excellent experience with CTA. Julie designed a beautiful addition to the master bedroom along with a remodel of two bathrooms in 2013. Buzz's team did a great job creating the spaces that Julie designed. The firm was careful to follow the design style of the original architect resulting in a remodel that updated the rooms but was very cohesive with the whole house.

CTA did a masterful job converting our 1950s Eastside rambler into a beautiful and livable family home. Using "Not So Big" techniques, Julie's design gave us everything on our wish list with only a 400 sq ft addition.
Construction quality from Buzz's team is fantastic. The 6 month project was on budget and we couldn't be more happy with the results.
