Vandervort Architects
In architectural design, the site presents the framework into which the building is woven. For any given site, the effort must be made to determine its spirit and its sense of place. A sense of place results from a vast number of influences acting upon and within a piece of land. These influences can be easily quantifiable such as zoning codes, or climatic conditions, or less so like cultural/historical precedents, and the clients' desires.

The particular group of influences on a place is specific and unique to that place alone. Our design process seeks to define these various influences through comprehensive analysis involving the client, municipalities, and consultant specialists. We then set out, through artful consideration, to determine the most appropriate design response.

We perform extensive analyses of a site's natural features in order to respond to its native character - i.e. the way water flows through the site, the location of existing trees and vegetation, the presence of wildlife, the direction of the wind, the quality of light, and the quantity of sun.
Services
Reflect the needs and desires of the client in order to create architecture that is uniquely suited to your lifestyle. Respond to the specific characteristics of each site in order to create architecture that is carefully integrated with its surroundings. Respect the environment by creating architecture that integrates materials, methods of building and ways of living that sustain our natural resources and enhance our communities.
Vandervort Architects creates architecture that is influenced by the beauty and tradition of the Northwest. Our approach seeks appropriate design solutions that respond to the land, reflect our clients' needs, and respect the communities in which we live and create. We apply these same sensitivities toward understanding less familiar surroundings when working elsewhere around the region and country.
The questionnaire responses are then gathered into a detailed Program that will allow the design to directly reflect your input. You may also be asked to supply a Survey, a Geotechnical report or other studies required by the jurisdiction or otherwise deemed necessary. We have consultants that we use on a regular basis that will be recommended.
We have completed Built-green projects, been featured in the AIA What Makes it Green program on multiple occasions and have completed a custom LEED for Homes project that received a Gold Certification. We are also the architects for zHome, an innovative net-zero energy and carbon-neutral townhome project located in Issaquah, Washington.
Explore the variety of our work, from Modern to Traditional, Rustic to Sleek, Vernacular to Urbane. Our philosophy and our process leads to artful architecture that is uniquely appropriate and responsive to each project, client, and place. Over the past decade as housing trends in the Seattle area have changed we have become increasingly involved with Multi-family Homes.

David and his team did some remodel design explorations for our midcentury home in Edmonds. His approach is extremely thoughtful, thorough, imaginative, conscientious, and authentic. His range of styles of ability to blend between them is very impressive. We really appreciated how well he listens and cares about designing an appropriate home around our lifestyle and programmatic needs. His ability to articulate options and rationale was excellent. We really had the sense he cared as much about our home as we did and would highly recommend anyone to speak with him when considering a custom

David is a meditative intellectual who knows how to bring life to the modern home. He is very serious about what he brings to the table. I have had great pleasure observing his beautiful work. What a brilliant man! I'd like to see his company embrace Universal Design so that people of every ability can enjoy living in and visiting the beautiful structures David and his gifted team create.
