We hired Flatrate to move us within Westchester. The only smooth part of the process was the virtual walkthrough price assessment. After that, everything went downhill. Communication has been absolutely horrendous with no followup on questions or complaints.
Primary screw-up was that flatrate forgot to send packers the day before our move. We paid for the company to pack us up. Initially, we had asked if it would be possible to move and pack on the same day, but were told it was not possible because there was too much stuff. Understandable. So, I had to cancel all of my scheduled appointments

Can we give a no stars rating? Â Our items were returned to us in unusable condition and certainly not the condition we provided them in. Â The mattresses and furniture had severe water damage and mold and must be replaced. Â No one advised us of this prior to the delivery. Â It is unacceptable and unprofessional that we paid the move out, storage and move in costs and have to discard the items, incurring not only the costs paid to but replacement costs as well. Run away from FlatRate!!! Hire them at the peril of your possessions and belongings. We hired them for a coast-to-coast move. Full service. They packed and moved everything. Unfortunately, upon delivery nearly every single item was damaged or destroyed -- the entire contents of our home. Packing, no less professional packing, was non-existent. Breakable objects were simply placed in a cardboard box with no cushioning and along with various other unprotected items. DON'T EVER USE FLATRATE, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! Flatrate's movers DAMAGED OUR FLOORS moving us out of our apartment. The floor was gouged out and scraped in several places. We immediately pointed this out to the movers when it happened, and they acknowledged they were careless and damaged the floors. The movers told us to contact Flatrate to get a reimbursement for the damage. As expected, WE LOST PART OF OUR SECURITY DEPOSIT to the landlord to repair the damage to the floors. Update to add that I've been hearing from others lately how terrible of an experience they've had with this company. It seems like almost every mediocre or better review is from a long time ago. They took our money, provided a service WELL below what we paid for and damaged some items and we are essentially stuck unless we took legal action.
I would absolutely advise anyone to go with a more reputable and responsible mover and not give their money and trust to FlatRate because there are some HUGE red flags with the experiences that many are having.

STAY AWAY!! These guys are complete crooks. I spent $10K on a move including storage fees. We had tables, antiques and lamps broken/damaged. Everyone is very nice when booking but when it came time to file a claim -- at first they accepted it, but it has now been 2 months of calls, follow up emails, asking for managers... I reached out to literally everyone but nobody calls back (try it -- call the customer service number 8667669858 and you will encounter a voicemail which is a black hole). So when you call sales they pick up promptly, but when you have a problem customer service will not call

I used flat rate moving to move my studio apartment. I initially thought they did a good job because they were efficient with time and were good about covering/wrapping furniture. They also brought wardrobe boxes to move hanging clothes which made it very easy to unpack.
The one issue is I noticed after unpacking one of my ceramic pots was missing out of the box it was in (the rest of the contents were there). ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. This business is completely unprofessional, unreliable and borderline predatory. Moving is stressful enough without a bunch of incompetent people handling your move for you. They were over 2 and a half hours late for arrival... I had to call out of work. Giving this "company" business cost me money. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EVER

I wish I can give 0 stars. I moved today and the crew was terrible. One of them reeked of liquor, and he was actually the best one. Unbelievable. I have damaged furniture and the attitude of the mover in charge was horrible. Before he even began the move, he tells me it's mandatory to tip. Please do not use this company.

The mover who came to my apartment tried to intimate me because I am a female and asked me multiple times how much I would tip him and his partner, because he said I left items off my move list. When I let him know I was uncomfortable he called in to report every single small item of mine he could see to the company, leaving me with an extra $300 charge. I filed a complaint and was told i would receive a refund but it has been two weeks and the company won't answer my phone call or emails.

I do not recommend this company. My relocation person disappeared on me for a whole month, but now she wants to email me once I've requested to get in touch with her manager. Also, they told me they wouldn't pull an 18 wheeler into my neighborhood, yet at 8am in the morning on a work day they did it!!!! They promise you that you only get charged for what you pay for, and that's not the case.

Broke, damaged, and disappeared my stuff, including an original painting, and then fully ghosted me despite all my calls and emails to get ahold of someone. They took the main seat cushion in for restoration after it was damaged by them and I will probably never get it back which means my $1200 arm chair is basically useless. They are thieves.

This is my second long distance move with FlatRate. My first experience - in 2016 was wonderful.
Unfortunately, this round didn't go so well.
First of all, the team that moved me OUT of my home in Florida didn't take any COVID-19 precautions. No masks/no gloves, etc. I spent the entire day hiding from the crew in my guest bathroom.
When my items arrived in NYC, there were some major damages. I am still waiting on a returned phone call/email from Customer Service. It's been 6 weeks....
Unfortunately, this round didn't go so well.

Last month, after extensive research, my husband and I contracted FlatRate Moving to move out of a turn of the century brownstone to a doorman building 3 blocks away. We were impressed by the company's guarantee of an efficient, careful move and after several stressful months of packing and organizing, we were looking forward to getting everything done with seasoned professionals.

A truly terrible move experience. We paid them to pack, move and unbox our items and they did each part quite badly. They packed random things together and broke half of our china. They put cleaning chemicals with food, fragile glass with wooden boxes. When moving, they banged up the walls, scuffed the floors and damaged our furniture. They also REFUSED to unpack our boxes and said they were too busy. I wish I had just sold my furniture and started fresh vs. using this awful company.

DO NOT move with FlatRate if you care about your belongings. They were totally careless with our things and ended up breaking our bed and losing the legs (rendering it unusable), damaging our solid wood dresser, and making multiple deep scratches on our wooden floor. On top of that, they FORGED my signature on the insurance coverage section to make it look like I agreed to the lower coverage policy, and then paid for only 5% of the cost of the bed. These guys are the worst kind of shysters, and they don't have any concept of customer service. Terrible workers, and and even worse claims

We hope we can save others from having the nightmare experience we had with Flatrate. Ours was a three step move. Out of one house, into their storage facility and then to Colorado. We have paid this company almost 30k. When the truck arrived in Colorado we were told they couldn’t fit all of our things on the truck so it was left behind in Maryland. We never received any warning in advance. So needless to say we were missing bed frames, bolts for bed frames we had were missing not to mention the extensive damage to our furniture. We were lied to about the storage facility. It was not climate
