Many of Hawaii's buildings are of concrete or concrete block construction. Unfortunately from a corrosion viewpoint, steel reinforcing is an integral structural component of each. Hawaii's salt laden environment (and especially our cooling trade winds that pickup the ocean spray) promotes the intrusion of chloride (i.e., salt) into the concrete.
The majority of our projects, especially smaller and medium size repair projects and surprising to some, even million dollar projects, are turn-key. Our experience most always allows us to provide you an accurate assessment as well as a solution to the problem. Upon a call from a client, we visit the site, assess the problem, provide our suggested solution, and implement the repair.
As does leak remediation, concrete slab crack repairs also takes many forms, all of which we address. A common occurrence is water infiltration through cracks in below-grade concrete slabs, often due to tidal fluctuations and sometimes due to intense, long duration rain and sometimes a combination of both.
Polyurethane grout is a liquid that with the addition of a small quantity of water and an accelerator expands multiple times its initial volume to create a foam that fills voids and cracks. At a 3-story building in downtown Honolulu with a full basement fronting Queen Street, chloride contaminated tidal water infiltrated into the basement through multiple locations, including slab cracks, the slab/wall interface, and wall cracks.
