Mark and Jessica enjoy cooking as a team, so they asked us to design a kitchen that works well for simultaneous prep work and cooking. This streamlined set of cabinets helped finish off a remodel of a 1960's North Seattle home. Here at Kerf, we know that when things are designed well, you can love them well.
We want our product to function in a way that makes sense for how you live your life, so each project is designed and built to order. We work with you, one on one, to create a perfect solution to your needs, whether you are a homeowner, architect, contractor or a developer. We utilize unique system joinery to assemble our cabinets based on a combination of dado joints and through tenons.
These tenons are often visible on the outside of finished faces of our work. It makes for extremely strong joints. We consider the detail to be quite beautiful, a visual demonstration of the craft that goes into our work. We use only the highest quality plywood, made to our specification by Columbia Forest Products in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Services
Kerf is committed to creating a sustainable product. In addition to our exclusive use of FSC certified sustainable wood, low VOC finishes and formaldehyde free glues, we are voluntarily participating in a carbon offset program to ensure that our products are not contributing to global warming. On average each kitchen we build pays for about two metric tons of carbon offsets, which are purchased quarterly through The Gold Standard.
This colorful staircase was the centerpiece of a remodel and second floor addition to a Seattle bungalow. This bookcase was built to occupy an existing interior french door opening in a small Seattle Bungalow. Joel and Julia have since built a new house, but they brought the bookcase with them. In addition to our cabinetry, our shop also produces a fair amount of freestanding furniture.
Need an inviting, sturdy, adaptable display for your storefront? Kerf Wall can adjust as your inventory changes and our minimalist hooks, cubbies, and shelves are perfect for highlighting special items. Give your products the frame they deserve. Display it with Kerf Wall. Give your employees the freedom to organize their office just the way they like it.
To come up with a price estimate for you, we need to know the overall dimensions of the cabinets you need. How wide, tall, and deep can we go? Photos and drawings are really helpful; Take a few snapshots of the room we are working with. Add a simple sketch with a few dimensions and we can usually get a good idea of the space.

I highly recommend Kerf's cabinetry. We held off on starting our remodel and waited several months for Kerf's kitchen cabinetry to be made and it was absolutely worth the wait! I love how Kerf incorporates a client's customization into their beautiful cabinetry such as our paper towel holder, Costco-sized spice drawer, Kitchen Aid mixer pop-up stand, and a knife block. I am all for supporting such talented and hard-working employees at Kerf Design; their cabinetry is high quality and fits perfectly in any type of home, Eichler, Craftsman, Modern, etc. Kerf's cabinetry is our

I got another project done with Kerf Design. This time it's my turn, the garage. Juli as usual comes thru for us with a fantastic design yet practical. Quality is my priority so I went with Kerf Design because of prior experience, and they don't disappoint. I love my garage now with all the storage, feels good working with a clean organized area.

I can't say enough great things about working with Kerf Design. My partner and I wanted to do something ambitious with the space below our staircase. We wanted (1) a place to store a mountain of skiing and climbing gear (2) a place for guests to store shoes and hang jackets and (3) a place to show off keepsakes from our travels...all of this hopefully doubling as a beautiful first impression when you walk into our home. On top of all that, the two of us often have conflicting opinions and can be pretty indecisive when it comes to home decor.
Despite all of that, Nathan designed and built

I contacted Kerf on a whim last summer after seeing so many lovely pins on pinterest. I have a mid-century house that needed a new bathroom and couldn't find a vanity I wanted. They responded so quickly and had ideas to me super fast! It was a wonderful experience and everyone was responsive. They were always so nice when I popped by their shop too, which I recommend to anyone considering using them. The process is a unique one and the shop is impressive. This is high quality workmanship! Since last summer, I hired them again to build my kitchen cabinets. I can't even put into words how

Fastidious, detail-oriented and people-centered design.
I was fortunate enough to observe the office culture, watching them share a communal lunch and seeing dogs running around. It is clear that people love to work here, and that they love making client kitchen/ furniture dreams come true.
I have a heinously uneven kitchen floor and the installation team worked tirelessly to ensure the cabinets were level. You don't see that - ever. Any other installer would have just thrown the cabinets in, dusted off their hands, and moved on to the next job.
I would use them again and again!

We wanted to have an built-in office setup built for an upstairs bedroom, and have a couple of custom credenzas built. We talked to three different cabinet makers, but ultimately chose Kerf to do our work. Why? Because we like their design concepts, which are very unique.
They were fairly easy to deal with, very informal, but knowledgeable and experienced. We got some good advice, and the final work was excellent. I only wish we'd had them build a credenza for our TV--we bought one at Crate and Barrel last fall, and now wish we hadn't.

We're the proud owners of four custom pieces of furniture designed by Nath Hartman, owner with his wife Kate of Kerf Design.
His designs are modern, clean lined, beautiful and very functional pieces, exquisitely crafted of architectural plywood with colorful, laminate surfaces that are durable and easy to clean. We have a T.V cabinet, a display cabinet, a custom display and paper drawer and a shoe storage entry table. Someday we'll have a kitchen designed and made by them I hope.

So happy with the modern, custom-built vanity they made us. Could not be more pleased with the look of the piece. What we got from them was well above the quality of anything I've seen in any shop I'm familiar with, and the price was under what I would expect to pay for something like that. (If anything, I came away from the experience working with them feeling that they could have reasonably charged us more than they did.) Also, I found the owner and other workers to be friendly and easy to communicate with.
