Twende Solar
While many people in developed countries may take for granted their access to efficient, safe, and reliable electricity, life after dark stops for millions of people in the developing world. This lack of power can limit even the most basic human activities such as cooking and cleaning, constrain income-generating opportunities to daylight hours, and hinder students from reading or studying after sunset.

Solar energy provides a clean, reliable source of power for even the most remote communities. Operated and supported by solar PV industry professionals, nonprofit Twende Solar bridges the gap between renewable energy experts and under-resourced populations. Utilizing its expertise in system design, project logistics and installation, Twende Solar seeks to empower economically marginalized communities worldwide with sustainable source of electricity for years to come.
Services
QIN has its first solar panels! Thanks to Twende Solar, the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), volunteer installers and electricians and Quinault volunteers looking to learn solar installation skills, there is a 22.5 kW solar array on the Queets Community Center.
The Community Project: Ethiopia, in partnership with the community of Chole, requested that Twende Solar install a fully off-grid solar system for Wogagen School. Twende Solar will directly support the first solar installation for the campus and provide training for local experts to maintain and install systems for future buildings.
Dignity Village is a self-governed and self-funded community of 60 people working to move from houselessness to permanent housing. Established over 20 years ago, it is the oldest sanctioned program of its type in the United States. With its 43 tiny houses, this community serves many people in transition and does a lot with very little.
In the summer of 2020, Twende Solar began having conversations with the Quinault Indian Nation (QIN) and Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) about installing a donated solar system on a community building on the reservation.
Founded in 1949 by John Van Diest Sr., Portland Rescue Mission opened its doors as the "John 3:16 Mission." Since then, the Portland Rescue Mission has had a tireless commitment to breaking the cycle of homelessness, addiction and despair in the lives of hurting people in need.

Twende is a great organization providing solar to folks who don't have electricity in developing countries and installing on a women's homeless shelter. I volunteered with them on a few projects and am very impressed with the dedication of those that started it and run it.

Whether your considering volunteering, donating or participating in the Save a Watt - Give a Watt program, I can personally say your time and money make a huge difference in the communities that Twende Solar serves.
I am hooked. The shear impact of what we did in Haiti for one community is…well...I’m still processing it. Just imagine 475 students having electricity in their school for the first time in their lives. And the ripples it will have through out the community.
For me, the time and money I contributed, had more impact on changing lives than anything else I could have thought about

Twende Solar has gone to remote regions of the world to provide electricity. They have opened up opportunities for people to improve their lives. With the installation of solar power they have also made some people safer. Installing solar generators to bring water from alligator infest rivers has safed lives of women and children whose responsibilities included bringing buckets of water from those rivers for irrigation. The energy produced has allowed people to substitute safe lights replacing kerosene lanterns. Twende Solar is providing valuable services to people without electricity to improve
