Studio Dec
Studio DEC is a full-service design firm based in Seattle, Washington. We specialize in residential remodels, additions, new home construction, and Backyard Cottages, aka DADUs. Our project portfolio ranges from budget-friendly kitchen renovations and front porch additions to the design of backyard cottages and entire homes.

We are a small firm with a strong emphasis on direct client communication and listening. Our team is committed to sustainability: we believe that the greenest solution is often the most economical solution as well, whether that means taking advantage of rebates on energy-efficient appliances or practicing passive solar design to keep heating bills low.

We use state of the art 3d design software that lets us and our clients visualize the design of their project inside and out. Our strong background in residential construction and sustainability insures project success both in terms of cost and design goals.
Services
This project consisted of an extensive renovation to a single-level ranch home originally built in the 1950s and altered in the 1990s. Only the garage and basement of the original home were kept. The 2nd story of the addition was softened by creating a shed dormer and a cross gable. A long, west-facing covered porch welcomes visitors to the front door, and transoms above the first floor windows allow natural light to flood the home.

We are forever grateful for having been introducted to Studio Dec (Dan Corcoran). Initially we got an estimate for our project from the Contractor firm hammer in hand. They said we would need to find a good architect for our project and are actually the ones that recommended Dan to us!

Our project was for a Dadu on the footprint of the existing 15x30 garage and some renovations in our tiny 25x25 bungalow. He gave us 3 3-D mockups of the front space and great estimates of how much our different options would cost. His design suggestions were incredible with a back addition to move our staircase

We moved into a condo that had a great view, but needed a major face-lift. Dan listened to what we wanted (light, bright, traditional) and designed several creative options for our living room remodel. He gave us lots of good advice re: how to select a contractor, what costs to expect, etc.. Dan even met with our cabinet maker to ensure the success of this project, and he spoke highly of Dan. The end result? We got EXACTLY what we hoped for, and couldn't be happier. Dan was a pleasure to work with, considerate of our budget, and a good listener. On a scale of one to ten, he's an eleven

We couldn't have asked for better than Dan! Dan Corcoran (the DEC in StudioDEC) designed the redo of our apartment. He gave us 3 different layouts to choose from, each with computer generated 3-D images of the finished product. He listened to our feedback and came up with a final design that met our needs exactly.

As the construction progressed, Dan was there on site, supervising the contractors, making changes as needed. Thank god he was there to make the decisions that only someone with experience and expertise (not us) could make correctly. He has an excellent eye, a thorough knowledge

Studio DEC (Dan) helped us on a reno of a backyard studio. Dan helped conceptualize, steer us away from wild ideas (that in retrospect we are lucky we didn't try), move towards financially reasonable choices, and solve challenging problems that other contractors had suggested crazy stupid (and expensive) solutions for. A great example is his choice of using spray foam insulation (expensive) instead of standard batting for the very complex ceiling (it was an owner build and had lots of joists and panel sections). A roofing contractor wanted to put in six vents and batting and the cost was crazy

Nice design on paper, poor material choice, didn't work within budget, poor follow through on project
