Cotton Cloud Futons was founded in 1981 by Terri Treat who was 17 years old at the time. Inspired by her parents to start on a journey that, many years later, is a thriving business still going stronger than ever. Cotton Cloud has always been a labor of love. Terri says, Ever since I can remember, I have had a very close connection to nature, and a deep respect for the planet with which we've all been entrusted.
By chance, I took a class on futon-making, and from that moment on, it was clear to me that making beds out of cotton provided the perfect synergy of art, craft, and mindfulness for the Earth. At first, I was living in a little farm house out in the woods, making covers on a treadle sewing machine and building each mattress by hand.
The whole experience was very zen, and it gave me the chance to brainstorm and try different combinations of materials and construction methods. Her initial clients were her family and friends. Soon her neighbor, who was a wood worker, built Cotton Cloud's first tri-fold frame.

Services
Cotton cloud unfortunately no longer employs delivery drivers. If you need help getting your order home, we can refer you to a local delivery service that is familiar with our products and store operations. You can set your delivery for any day of the week between 8am and 8pm except for on holidays.
Futon mattresses come in all shapes and sizes, and we can even craft custom sizes for boats, RVs etc. The most common sizes we sell are Twin, Full & Queen, standard mattress sizes. I feel like you went above and beyond what the ordinary business world would do, and I am so very grateful.
We handcraft our natural futon mattresses in Portland, OR using sustainable wool, organic cotton and natural latex. Switching to a natural or organic mattresses is the perfect option for people who may have allergies or chemical sensitivities to commercially manufactured mattresses that use chemical flame retardants, VOC foam or other toxic stain resistant chemicals.
It is important to protect your bed from moisture to prevent mold & mildew since our futons are not chemically treated. We carry removable mattress pads made with natural fibers such as cotton or wool that can be removed and washed. Similar to conventional mattresses, futons can not be washed or dry cleaned.

In a year where they're dealing with supply chain issues and other challenges, everyone we worked with went above and beyond to get what we needed. I have been thinking about writing my long over-due review. We badly needed a replacement for our 20-something futon and this place is a go-to. Found a queen-sized futon frame a few years ago and, more recently, a replacement for our old futon. They had a impressive number of styles in a variety of prices. We tried out a few, found what we wanted and they had it in stock so immediate gratification. Great experience, people are super patient and know their stuff. Probably not the cheapest place for sheets and futon covers.

Their staff is friendly. The people who helped me were mostly kind and patient.
I struggle with them after some disorganization around a mattress exchange: I'd bought The Pearl initially and it gave me hip pain (which I've never had with any mattress) and so they kindly let me make an appointment to exchange The Pearl for another mattress. Because of Covid I had to schedule an appointment by phone for my exchange, which I did easy-peasy. But the day before my appointment it occurred to me to call them

I hope that this business will take a look at their customer service during covid. I had a nice initial call with someone to arrange my purchase and they said we could do curbside pickup, just pull up to the loading dock and call and finalize payment when we arrived. Fantastic.

I recently purchased a frame for a king bed from Cotton Cloud and my wife and I are extremely happy with it. We moved into our house shortly after all the Covid-related restrictions went into place, and while I always like to get a close look at the furniture I'm buying before doing so, that just isn't an option right now. I saw a great looking bed frame on their website and decided to take the plunge. Throughout the shipping process, Mack kept me in-the-loop on the status of the frame. I'm having an intense love affair with my pillow, and I need to thank the team at Cotton Cloud for introducing me to my best sleep ever! The latex contour pillow is perfect for me, and I was uncertain when I first brought it home. The density of the pillow supports my head and neck. I am in search of a new sofa. I walked in here because I had my car in the shop and it was close to walk to, to kill some time. They have mattresses and really nice Futons. I have no interest in either, but the guy who greeted me and showed me around was kind, knowledgeable, and approachable. I am seeking a traditional sofa couch not a futon, wanted to have a peek, to see what else they offered.

The owner reached out about my review and got me in touch with a manager who suggested that the compression is likely a manufacturing defect, and so we are swapping out our mattress for a new one tomorrow. I'm glad to see a company stand by their product and take responsibility for errors, and I'll update again once we've had a chance to try out the replacement.

Our first time purchasing natural beds and I couldn't be more pleased! We came in about a month ago with only a general idea of what we were looking for: two twins and a queen size mattress. Staff were very helpful from start to finish. In store, we received a lot of help trying out different mattresses and talking about various platform options. We bought a twin Hawthorne, a twin futon, and a queen Pearl. They have great beds for the whole family. We left with a couple of our items in our van and a few to be picked up later. Had a great buying experience in the store -The sales gal was super nice and put up with all my questions without acting annoyed (Yay!). After I placed my order, they called twice to let me know the status of my order.
I purchased a simple frame with a privacy screen so we can have storage under the bed. We also purchased a King Size Pearl Futon Mattress which had to be made (since they did not stock the king size), but only took about 2 weeks to complete. I had the frame and mattress delivered and coughed up another $25 bucks to have the bed assembled for me - this was totally worth the money

I purchased a single lounger that folds out into a single size bed. A fantastic futon and was a last minute purchase because I had family coming to town. The young lady that helped me was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The store was great about honoring any deals (yelp in particular) with my purchase to give me the best savings.

My wife and I had a really great experience at Cotton Cloud. The staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We went in to just buy a futon and came back for a mattress and pillows.
The products they sell look great and are of good quality. Prices are good as well.
